SNK's 80s shmup TNK III returns on PS4 and Switch

Here’s a blast from the past, literally. Retro Hamster fans have dug up another old-school SNK arcade game for re-releases as this week sees 1985  shmup TNK III became available for download on PS4 and Nintendo Switch.

Originally released in the arcades during SNK’s formative years, TNK III is a free-movement pickup game in which players pilot a fearsome tank through a war zone, taking out infantry, cannon camps, and other heavy metal monsters on the way to completing each stage. The vehicle is armed with standard machine gun fire as well as a limited number of missiles.

The TNK III was, in fact, a variant of Capcom’s popular Commando, released the same year, and a precursor to SNK’s own Ikari Warriors, which would follow in 1986. TNK III would get plenty of ports for home computers under the less confusing moniker T. A. N. K. and would even see a sequel on the NES in the form of an Iron tank. TNK III is available for download on PS4 in Japan and Nintendo Switch worldwide.

I enjoy playing games, and gaming is a passion of mine. Among my favorite games are Tears of the Kingdom, GTA, and Cyberpunk.
