Microsoft’s acquisition helped in the development of Psychonauts 2
The development of Psychonauts 2 started as a crowdfunding project a few years ago, but around the middle of the game’s development, Microsoft acquired the developer, Double Fine Productions. As with other productions, as in the case of inXile’s Wasteland 3, the production was favored by the purchase by those of Redmond.
Lauren Scott, the senior systems designer for Double Fine Productions, said in an interview that thanks to the foreign exchange from Microsoft’s purchase of the studio, Psychonauts 2 is much better than it would have been originally.
A leap in quality thanks to the new economic possibilities in Psychonauts 2
The impact was mainly seen in the enemies and some of the bosses, the quality of which was clearly enhanced by the good use of the cash inflow after the merger with Microsoft. In the past, the developers have said very good things about the purchase of the studio and the chance it gave them to realize their vision for the game.
For now, Psychonauts 2 is coming to Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, PC, and PS4 on 25 August. There is no PS5 version announced at the moment, so the Xbox Series will be the only next-gen console to have a native edition, at least for now.
