Mistfall Hunter Review
Read the review of Mistfall Hunter, a Soulslike Extraction video game, developed and published by Bellring Games.
Bellring Games has finally come out with one of the most interesting-looking games in a long time, combining two genres that I thought might not work properly. Mistfall Hunter, developed and published by Bellring Games, is a Soulslike Extraction video game. They initially revealed this game back in 2024, and now, two years later, it is finally out. From the first impressions of the game, I was a bit hesitant about how these two chaotic genres work together as one, but after trying it for a few hours, I can see the vision and dedication of the Devs. This is our review of the Mistfall Hunter, a unique extraction game that grows on you with its chaotic challenges.
NOTE: Mistfall Hunter copy was provided by the Devs for review purposes.
Story & World

The Mistfall Hunter takes place in the cursed land of Weavereach. It is a dark-fantasy realm that is consumed by Gyldenmist, a golden fog. This mysterious mist has turned all mortal life into monsters on the land. Players take the role of Gyldhunters, who are resurrected warriors and tasked with gathering the divine blood. The overall story of Mistfall Hunter is incomplete, as the Devs have assured that the full narrative will be revealed in future updates. Despite the missing story elements, the secret lore and lore-hunting through quests and NPC dialogues feel satisfying.
Gameplay
Mistfall Hunter is a Soulslike Extraction video game that allows players to dive into a chaotic world either solo or in a party of 3 players to gather resources/loot and extract. It is a PVPVE game, so you get to encounter a lot of monstrosities and other real players throughout the match. Personally, I find Mistfall Hunter as tense and risky as Escape from Tarkov. Although both of these games are totally unique in terms of combat, the PVE tension and PVP extraction risk feel the same.

Similar to any Soulslike game, Mistfall Hunter offers different classes. Some classes excel in close-range combat, some in mid-range, and some in long-range. Moreover, there is a healer class, specifically for support during your trio matches. Every class comes with its unique playstyle, skills, and talents. Skills and talents play a crucial role in character progression. There are numerous skills and talents to unlock, and the best thing about them is that you can pair certain ones together for a deadly combo or a unique playstyle.
Honestly, the build variety for every class is amazing in Mistfall Hunter. The game does not hold you in a place with a certain class that you play. You are free to explore your options and experiment with different skills to enhance your character’s strengths.
Apart from the character and progression system, the core gameplay of the game is somewhat similar to every extraction game. You load into a map of your choice, two at launch, and encounter monsters and other players. Moreover, there is a mist that closes over time, pushing you and other players into an area for even riskier fights.
Combat
The combat in Mistfall Hunter feels authentic and a bit faster-paced than a regular Soulslike game. This might be something that throws off Soulslike veterans, but for an extraction game, it works. There are all the core mechanics of a Soulslike game, like stamina-based dodging, blocking, and attacks, requiring you to manage stamina carefully while encountering multiple foes at a time.

One of the unique mechanics in the game that I personally liked is the death penalty. The death penalty is different depending on whether you died during PVE or PVP. If you face death from an AI enemy or a boss, you get the chance to revive and keep all of your items. However, if you die in a fight against another real player, you lose everything. It is a smart mechanic, balancing the constant pressure of boss fights and PVP.
Visuals, Sound, & Performance
The graphics and visuals of Mistfall Hunter are great. What actually stands out is the setting and the mythic-tone world. There are ruined fortresses, corrupted landscapes, and giant corpses that give a whole cursed feeling to the world. The animations feel smooth, and the armor designs are very cool.
The sound design of Mistfall Hunter is also great. There is an eerie ambience that you can hear at various locations, and the music changes to a dramatic one during boss fights. The clashing of swords and casting spells also sound great.
One of the main drawbacks of Mistfall Hunter is the performance. There is a noticeable optimization issue, even on high-end PCs and consoles. The texture rendering or desync is very noticeable.
Verdict – Score 8/10
Mistfall Hunter is a great extraction game, especially a Soulslike Extraction game. The replayability and experimentation with skills and talents are high, raising the build variety. The cross-platform matchmaking is good, but there is only a trio option. I do hope that the Devs add a duo option in future updates. Moreover, it is definitely a refreshing twist on the extraction genre. The only major drawback is the optimization and technical bugs that I hope the Devs fix as soon as possible. Other than that, it is a solid game that you can easily enjoy with your friends who crave Soulslike adventure and challenging fights.
Mistfall Hunter is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
