Pokémon Winds and Waves: Everything We Know About Starters, Release Date, and 300+ New Pokémon
One recent rumor reveals the starter Pokémon evolution in Pokémon Winds and Waves, claiming Pombon becomes Bipedal upon evolution.
Pokémon Winds and Waves is the upcoming Pokémon game as part of the series 30th anniversary. Nintendo revealed this latest installment in February, where players will explore a new tropical island and catch new Pokémon. Pokémon Winds and Waves is still in development and is looking for a release sometime in the summer or late 2027. The Devs have confirmed the three starter Pokémon for this new installment and the open-world where the game takes place. After sometime of the reveal, the fans are trying hard to learn more about the game. One recent rumor reveals the starter Pokémon evolution in Pokémon Winds and Waves.
Pombon Evolves to Bipedal in Pokémon Winds and Waves – Rumor
According to @MrFrozenScott on X, the leaker claims that “Pombon becomes bipedal upon evolution”, which is one of the starter Pokémon in the upcoming Pokémon Winds and Waves. In addition to this, Frozen Scott also mentioned the Starter Pokémon evolution as follows.
- Browt: Grass/Ground Type
- Pombon: Pure Fire Type
- Gequa: Water/Psychic Type
Pokémon community is skeptical about FrozenScott leaks, as he is not an old-timer leaker. He is someone who has shown up out of nowhere with numerous leaks regarding the upcoming title. With a lot of fans questioning the validity of the leaker, FrozenScott said the following.
“The information i have is up to date as of April 2026. I 100% understand everyone questioning my validity, i am someone who just showed up out of nowhere in the past few days. So i dont blame anyone!”
“This is simply just what i know. Other sources may have outdated information, or outright wrong information as well. Some sources dont even know everything such as Khu/Kaka’s source not knowing about Karusu.”
Other leakers, specifically Khu, a renowned leaker of the franchise, have predicted that the game will not be released until “late 2027”. Moreover, Nintendo might not reveal anything new about the game in 2026.
A New Battle System – Flexible Multi-Pokémon Battles
While Pokémon Winds and Waves will remain a turn-based game as is traditional for the mainline series, the battle system is receiving a notable overhaul. Unlike previous games that locked battles into either single or double formats, the new system will allow any number of opposing Pokémon to join or leave the battle at any time. This flexible multi-Pokémon battle style was first seen in Pokémon Z-A, and it looks like Game Freak is expanding on that concept for Generation 10.
This change could significantly reshape competitive battles and storyline encounters alike, adding a layer of unpredictability that fans have never experienced in a mainline Pokémon game.
Massive Leaks – Regional Evolutions, New Areas, and More
A fresh wave of leaks, widely circulated under the name “Massive Pokémon Winds & Waves Leaks – Part 3,” has revealed a host of new details about the game’s Pokédex, world design, and gameplay features.
Several older Pokémon are reportedly receiving brand-new regional evolutions in Generation 10. According to the leak, Onix, Houndour, Zweilous, and Salandit will all get unique regional evolutions. On the flip side, the current build does not seem to include a new Eevee evolution or a Tropius evolution, though this could always change before launch.
Beyond the Pokédex, the leaks paint a vivid picture of the game world. Players will be able to explore underwater points of interest, including a coral reef area called Neon Abyss, described as having a vibe similar to the Glimwood Tangle. The open world will also feature areas that can only be reached by flying, adding a new dimension to exploration. Additionally, overworld shinies and the iconic shiny encounter sound are reportedly making a comeback.
The legendary Pokémon situation also appears to be changing. Both legendaries are said to appear in both game versions and play a significant role in the story, drawing comparisons to the approach taken in Pokémon Black and White.
Breaking Down the 300+ New Pokémon Rumor
The biggest talking point surrounding Pokémon Winds and Waves is the rumored massive expansion to the Pokédex. Leaks suggest the game could feature over 300 new Pokémon, but it is important to understand exactly what that number includes.
According to sources like CentroLeaks and Kurwa, the leaked build contains 531 Pokédex slots, with 307 placeholders reserved for new Pokémon. However, this “300+” figure isn’t just for brand-new creatures. Here is a breakdown of what that number actually means:
- New Pokémon Species: It includes brand-new Pokémon designs exclusive to Generation 10.
- New Regional Forms: It also counts existing Pokémon that have been given new regional variants for the upcoming game.
- Does Not Include Weather Forms: The new weather-based forms (such as the rumored weather forms for Arcanine and Lucario tied to the “Netsu” gimmick) are not included in this count.
- Does Not Include Multiple Form Pokémon: Pokémon that have multiple forms, like Alcremie, are only counted once regardless of how many variations they have.
Even with these caveats, a 300+ figure would make Pokémon Winds and Waves the most ambitious entry in the series’ history, far surpassing the 100-150 new Pokémon typically seen in previous generations.
Floating islands in Pokémon Winds and Waves
Recent leaks surrounding the upcoming Pokémon game, Pokémon Winds and Waves, strongly suggest the introduction of floating islands as a significant element of its world design. This development could revolutionize exploration within the game, offering players new vertical dimensions to discover.
Key indicators from the leaks include references to areas exclusively accessible via Flying Rotom Mode. A particularly compelling piece of evidence comes from the leaked “Teraleak map,” an early development version of the game’s world. On this map, “Island 17” is explicitly labeled as “Elevated Island,” providing a direct hint at its aerial nature. It is important to note that as an early development map, some details and locations may be subject to change in the final release.
Furthermore, speculation is rife that the Wind Legendary’s Temple will be situated atop one of these enigmatic floating landmasses. Given the game’s thematic focus on “Winds and Waves,” it would be a logical design choice for one of the two main Legendary Pokémon to reside in the skies, complementing the other’s potential dwelling deep within the ocean. This symmetrical placement would enhance the narrative and exploration experience.
The leaked map also reveals several unidentified islands whose purpose remains unconfirmed. It is plausible that some of these hidden locations will also require aerial access, thereby expanding the utility and importance of Flying Rotom Mode in uncovering the game’s secrets.
Should these leaks prove accurate, the prospect of sky-based exploration could emerge as one of the most thrilling new features in Pokémon Winds and Waves, inviting players to soar through the clouds and uncover a new layer of adventure.
