Star Fox Is Now Available on Nintendo Switch 2
Star Fox has officially launched on Nintendo Switch 2 today, June 25, 2026. Nintendo first announced this during a dedicated Nintendo Direct back on May 7.
The game is a remake of Lylat Wars, the classic on-rails shooter that put the series on the map. This version brings back all the fan-favorite characters with a more detailed look, plus new cutscenes that are both subtitled and fully voiced to flesh out the team dynamics and story.
It kicks off with an exclusive prologue showing a battle from the past featuring James McCloud, Fox’s father. The rest of the crew is here too: Falco Lombardi, Slippy Toad, and Peppy Hare. All three iconic vehicles return as well—the Arwing, the Landmaster, and the Blue-Marine, each with their own quirks.
The main Campaign mode takes you across several planets on your way to the enemy stronghold, fighting to restore peace to the Lylat System. You’ll get into free-flight dogfights and take down massive bosses along the way. Challenge Mode lets you replay completed levels with extra objectives that unlock new challenges not found in the main campaign, playable on Normal or Pro difficulty.
VS Mode pits two teams of four against each other—Star Fox versus Star Wolf—competing for the highest score by completing missions and taking out enemies.
With just one copy of the game, up to four players can play together locally using GameShare, or go online through GameChat. The GameChat feature also lets you swap your face cam for character avatars from the game. If you want to mix up the controls, you can hold a Joy-Con 2 like a mouse for “Mouse Aiming,” which makes targeting and piloting feel more intuitive. And if you hand a Joy-Con 2 to a second player, you can split the roles of pilot and gunner in co-op mode.
