Do you know why Animal Crossing: New Horizons is banned in China? A report has recently been released that confirms all the issues that have kept the popular title from being officially released in the country.
The origin of the ban is none other than Hong Kong’s protests over the growing dominance of this former British colony. As a result, the following problems have arisen:
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons has never been officially released in China and buyers resorted to resellers to get their hands on a copy or directly to buying Western Switches where Animal Crossing: New Horizons worked.
- The Hong Kong protests have been taking to the internet for years now, and at the time the Animal Crossing: New Horizons custom design tools were used to protest the cause.
- One example is Joshua Wong, who shared images and slogans related to the protests from his own island, which led to blockades from the Chinese government.
- This rules out Animal Crossing: New Horizons launching in China in the future, at least if the custom design feature is retained. Nintendo has not commented on this.
