A few of the first things to tackle after waking up in Kokiri Forest are getting the Sword and Shield. If you have played the original Ocarina of Time, you might have an idea of where to go and what to do. New players who have never played Ocarina of Time might struggle right at the beginning to get the Sword and Shield. In this guide, we will explain how to get the Sword and Shield in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

How to Get the Sword in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

The sword is located inside a chest on the other side of the training grounds in Kokiri Forest. To gain access to the passage to the other side, you must first complete the initial steps of the training from the Sword Master. Go up to the training grounds and speak with the master. Complete the initial targeting, dodging, and movement techniques.

Eventually, the sword master will ask you to get the sword from the other side for a special lesson. Go over to the passage and press A to crouch and go to the other end of the passage. Once there, get past the moving boulder by following it and climb the ladder on the right.

After that, turn left and jump on the middle structure with the chest. Open the chest to get the Kokiri Sword.

How to Get the Shield in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Unlike the sword, you have to buy the shield from the shopkeeper in Kokiri Forest. He sells the Deku Shield for 40 Rupees. Here are some quick ways to get 40 Rupees.

  • Pick up 5 rupees in the shop on the right side.
  • Exit the shop and go to the right. Jump over the rocks to get 6 rupees.
  • Dive into the water from the rock to pick up 5 rupees in the water.
  • Go to Mido’s house and open the chests to get a total of 16 rupees.
  • Head to the sword passage. As you come out of the tunnel, turn right to find 5 rupees.
  • Go behind the boulder and go into the first corner on the right to find another 5 rupees.

This will give you a total of 42 rupees, enough for you to buy the shield.

Playing Video Games is the very first hobby that I partake in and it became my favorite hobby. Played Unreal Tournament 2004 as my first game which made me a fan of FPS Games. Story and Adventure Games are still my Cup of Tea to go with as they give more detailing to the described worlds and characters. I love to help out my fellow gamers across all over the world by making my publications.
