Animal Crossing New Horizons is 3 million copies away from reaching the record of GTA V, which sold 34 million in its first 11 months of life.
Nintendo enjoys excellent health, it is something that we already told you yesterday in relation to the almost 80 million Nintendo Switch consoles that have managed to sell, as well as the large figures of their exclusive games. The most striking is Animal Crossing: New Horizons which can beat another record…
Yesterday we learned that Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the first exclusive game in history to surpass 30 million copies sold in just one year, and now it turns out that the cute life simulator for Nintendo Switch can beat an incredible record set by GTA V.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons has sold a total of 31.18 million copies in just over 10 months and is already close to becoming the best-selling game on Nintendo Switch, surpassing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, but it could also surpass GTA 5’s sales in the same time period.
GTA V managed to sell 34 million copies in its first 11 months on PS3 and Xbox 360, so Animal Crossing will have to add another 3 million copies sold in a month to catch Rockstar’s title. It’s no easy task, but it’s got it.
Financial analyst Chris Scullion claimed that it is quite possible that the Switch game will get it, as it averages about 3.4 million games sold each month. If during this month of February it equals that figure, it would surpass the incredible record of Grand Theft Auto V.
This is very meritorious, as GTA V was released on two distinct platforms (PS3 and Xbox 360), while Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a Nintendo Switch exclusive video game. Of course, it seems impossible that Nintendo’s title will match, in the long run, the 135 million units that GTA 5 has achieved to date.
Do you think that Animal Crossing: New Horizons will manage to overcome this milestone of GTA V? It is quite possible that it is, and it is further proof that the Switch exclusive is a gaming event; one of the most special video games of recent years.
