CAPCOM’s First $70 Game is Dragon’s Dogma 2

Capcom's First $70 Game

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the upcoming single-player, narrative-driven action RPG from CAPCOM set in a fantasy world for players to explore. It is a sequel to the original game that was released back in 2012. The official trailer of Dragon’s Dogma 2 also confirms its release date which is March 22, 2024. With the first official trailer of the game, CAPCOM also has opened its pre-order with the price tag of $69.99 for the base edition.

It is not the first game that has been listed for $70 bucks in the past few years but it is officially the first game from CAPCOM. CAPCOM has released 2 titles this year including Resident Evil 4 Remake and Street Fighter 6 both with the price tag of $59.99. A lot of other companies have increased their prices in the past couple of years to $70 and it makes sense for CAPCOM to raise the price for their latest product.

However, the reason behind increasing the price of Dragon’s Dogma 2 and possibly every AAA title coming in the future from CAPCOM is that Haruhiro Tsujimoto, the president of CAPCOM said that ‘the price of the game is too low’ during an interview at TGS (Tokyo Game Show) 2023. He stated that the development of the games has increased by 100 times higher than in the old days but the prices for software and games haven’t raised much.

Many other companies haven’t yet increased their prices of games but it is possible that every new AAA title would be listed for the price tag of $70 in the upcoming year.
