Destiny 2: Thorn Catalyst

In each new season of Destiny 2, players can get new Exotic Weapons with Exotic Armor. As there are numerous Exotic Weapons, choosing one can be difficult for the raid, invasion, or general questline. One of the best Exotic Weapons in Destiny 2 is Thorn which was first introduced in Destiny 2: Forsaken back in 2019 with the Season of the Drifter. With the recent changes to the Exotics, Bungie has added Thorn Catalyst in Season of the Wish to give the old Hand Canon some major buffs.

In this guide, we’ll go over how to get Thorn Catalyst in Destiny 2.

How to Get Thorn Catalyst in Destiny 2

The Thorn Catalyst can be obtained by completing the playlist activities which include Strikes, Nightfalls, Crucible, and Gambit matches. The drop chance of Thorn Catalyst is based on sheer luck during the matches. However, there is a requirement that you need to fulfill in making the Thorn Catalyst drop while you partake in the activities, and that is owning the Thorn. If you don’t have Thorn Exotic Weapon unlocked before you hunt for Catalyst, then you will not be able to get the Catalyst from the matches.

To get the Thorn Exotic Weapon, you must have access to the Forsaken DLC which gives you 3x Forsaken Ciphers from which you can get the Forsaken Exotics from the Exotic Archive: Monument to Lost Lights at the tower.  If you don’t have the Forsaken Ciphers, then you need to have the following items instead.

  • 1x Exotic Cipher
  • 125,000 Glimmer
  • 1x Ascendant Shard

Once you have the Thorn Exotic Weapon, it will make you eligible to have a chance of getting its Catalyst from Strikes, Nightfalls, Crucible, and Gambit matches.

NOTE: The Coil and Riven’s Lair Seasonal Activities of Season of the Wish do not drop the Thorn Catalyst.

Thorn Catalyst Perks

The Thorn Catalyst has the following perks and effects on the Thorn Exotic Weapon.

  • Adding 20 Range Points and 10 Stability Points to Thorn, helping you to take out targets at longer distances with ease.
  • Grant Thorn Weapon with Refined Soul perk which grants additional weapon range with increased mobility and handling for a short time after dealing a Final Blow or absorbing a Remnant.
