Elden Ring: How to Defeat Beast Clergyman and Maliketh, The Black Blade

Maliketh, The Black Blade is one of the major bosses in Elden Ring and you’ll get to fight him at the last act of the game. After you’ve set fire to Erdtree, you’ll be spawned in the Crumbling Farum Azula where you’ll fight Maliketh. As from Beside the Great Bridge Site of Grace just go up the stairs on the bridge to go into the Boss Fight Area.

Elden Ring: How to Defeat Beast Clergyman and Maliketh, The Black Blade

Maliketh boss fight has two phases in it, you’ll fight Maliketh, Beast Clergyman in the first phase, and in the second phase, you’ll fight Maliketh, The Black Blade. In both phases, he is aggressive and very quick but has some weak points which will we tell you how to deal maximum damage to him in some spots during the fight.

Phase 1 – Beast Clergyman

In the first phase, you’ll be facing him as the Beast Clergyman. There are some attacks that we are going to be focusing on but first, he’s going to do a lot of barrage attacks. Your main focus should not be on these attacks just dodge them and you can do a little bit of damage to him from behind. The first one that should you focus on would be the attack where he raises his hands all the way up to his head and slams down. He has two of those attacks, the first one is that where he uses his dagger hand to slam so when he does this attack you just need to roll and get a quick hit on him. Now when he’s raising his other hand without the dagger, he’s going to lift it off the ground and then do an AoE attack. So, what you can do here is you can roll the slam and attack and when he raises his hand up to do the slash you can roll again and attack.

If you have a heavier weapon, you can attack one time after rolling to play it safe but if you have the lighter weapon then you can do a couple of hits there. Other than that, he just usually does side jump rock throw so you can expect that and just roll close to him and do the swipe attack on him. You can also block it but it does a little damage to you so better be dodging and going into him to deal damage. Now the last attack I want you to focus on is when he does the attack where he slams the dagger on the side of him and then he swipes and brings it up. Now while he doing this attack if you’re able to sidestep the opposite direction that he’s slamming you are literally going to be behind him and you can easily attack him twice with a heavy weapon without taking any damage.

Now the last thing you want to do is before the second phase starts which will begin when his health is reduced to 50 hp, you should summon one of the summon spirits. You can summon any spirit you like the most, I’ve used marionettes in this scenario due to bows and arrows and they shoot everywhere and repeatedly so that is very useful. To summon spirits just go behind the pillar near the center and summon them so, as the second phase begins your spirit would attack Maliketh from the beginning and deal damage to him.

Phase 2 – Maliketh, The Black Blade

So, in phase two he changes from Beast Clergyman to the Maliketh, The black Blade. Make sure that you are fully healed as the phase starts because you kind of need to be aggressive in this phase. So, as the phase starts, he’s going to do the same consistent jump attack so this would be a chance for you to actually get a quick shot or two in. The other attack where you can hit him freely is where that his body is close to the ground and does an overhead slash so, you can just roll into him and get a free hit on to him.

The other attack that you will see is where he’ll slam his sword down to the ground and do an explosion and jump back. Now the jump distance that he does after the sword explosion is actually really consistent so, this will work in your favor. After the explosion, you can run into the predestined location and you can actually land two shots at him. First one while he is coming down and the second when he lands. You can guarantee hit him once with the heavy weapon in hand so you really want to get a hit after he does this attack.

Now there is an attack of his where he goes into the air and fires three waves of blade slashes and then he dives in for the fourth hit. If any one of these attacks hits you, you’re going to start losing your hp for some time and you can’t block it either so the only option is to dodge it without getting hit. So, the preferred way is to go behind a pillar while he’s doing this attack and three of his blade slashes will be blocked because of the pillar and then he’ll do a rush for the fourth hit and you just have to roll out of the slash. One more thing is that if you want to heal just go behind the pillar and be at distance from the pillar, he does some AoE attack which has some range so they can catch you and you’ll start losing your hp.

The other attack you might want to focus on is when he spins the sword around him like 360 and hits it to the ground and it does an AoE attack which is like a rapid-fire kind of thing so you can just go back but be careful it has some distance so it can catch you while you dodging it and if you get hit by it you’ll probably lose 80% of your hp. The preferred way is that you can actually use that to your benefit, as he is spinning you need to get close and where he’ll drop the sword the AoE attack would start from there so, your best option is to just roll into him and kind of like behind him because there is going to be a delay where you can hit him like two times.

The other attack where you can hit him where he does the two horizontal sweeps just dodge by rolling into him and you can get a hit or two on to him while he is doing the attack. The next attack where you can hit him is like very similar to the very first attack we told you about, Now he would stand up on his hind legs instead of prone and he’ll do a vertical slam down slash. This would be a good time to get some hits in and you can deal a good amount of damage to him.

That would be pretty much all that you wanted to know about this boss and his attacks and what are his weak spots where you can hit him and deal damage to him. Now just hit him when the time is right and don’t do aggression too much because he can catch you off guard. Whenever you want to heal just do it behind the pillar.

Once you killed Maliketh, The Black Blade you’ll get his remembrance and then you can go to the Finger Reader Enia which will be in the Roundtable area and you can get the weapon of Maliketh, The Black Blade. You can also get the Black Blade spell from the remembrance of the Black Blade.
