In a recent revelation from internal Microsoft documents, the tech giant had projected potential sales of two of its upcoming games, Starfield and the Indiana Jones action game, at 10 million copies each for the PlayStation 5 (PS5). However, in a strategic move, Microsoft decided to make these games exclusive to Xbox consoles, believing this would be more profitable in the long run.
The documents came to light during a legal dispute between Microsoft and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC). According to the disclosed files, in December 2020, shortly after the announcement of the acquisition of ZeniMax, Microsoft forecasted that the sales of Starfield and the Indiana Jones action game on PS5 would amount to 10 million copies for each game.
Originally, versions of both titles for Sony’s devices were in the plans. However, they will now be exclusive to PC and Xbox. Microsoft’s leadership believes that any potential losses can be offset by the potential of the Game Pass subscription service, as well as the growth in sales of their own consoles.

Starfield is set to be released on September 6, while the release date for the Indiana Jones project remains unknown. This move by Microsoft underscores the competitive nature of the gaming industry and the strategic decisions companies make to maximize their profits and market share.
