Minecraft Dungeons, Mojang’s new dungeon-crawler in a Minecraft style, has finally overtaken Animal Crossing as the best selling game on the Switch eShop.
This ends 3 months of Animal Crossing dominance, where the game had held the number one spot since early March. Minecraft Dungeons is also performing well across Xbox and PlayStation.
“Minecraft Dungeons has ended Animal Crossing’s Run as the best-selling game on the US eShop,” wrote independent games industry analyst Benji-Sales. “Animal Crossing: New Horizons had been #1 since early March. That’s 3 months of dominance.”
“As we are seeing on Xbox, Minecraft Dungeons is performing very strong, and is now #1 on Switch.”
To be honest, it is not a huge surprise that Minecraft Dungeons is now the best selling game on Nintendo eShop. Minecraft franchise has a huge fanbase, perhaps one of the biggest in the games industry. In the same vein, Minecraft Dungeons is also getting new updates pretty quickly.
On May 31, the game developers announced that Minecraft Dungeons will get two DLC’s this year. The first DLC Jungle Awakens will be released in the coming months, while the second DLC Creeping Winter will also join later this year. Moreover, Minecraft Developers also said that they are developing a new free cross-platform project.
“We’ll come back with more details in the coming weeks. In the meantime, equip your favorite weapon and show that Arch-Illager who’s boss! Get it? I’ll see myself out.”
