Rumor: Sony is working on the adaptation of another game - a film based on Horizon: Zero Dawn

Released on PlayStation 4 in 2017, the action-adventure game Horizon: Zero Dawn proved to be a big hit. The game was ported to PC last summer, and a second installment, subtitled Forbidden West, is now in development. The new series has become one of PlayStation’s flagship franchises and it looks like Sony has plans to expand it beyond video games.

According to one of Giant Freakin Robot’s sources, Sony is currently working on a film based on Horizon: Zero Dawn.

The site did not reveal any other details, but this is the third time in recent weeks that it has reported on Sony’s plans for a movie adaptation of certain games. First, there was news of a film based on Demon’s Souls, then Red Dead Redemption and now it’s Horizon: Zero Dawn’s turn. Either Sony has found potential in-game story adaptations, or we’re talking about some contrivances. In any case, before confirmation, the information should be treated as a rumor.

Officially, there are currently four known film adaptations from Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions. Uncharted has already been shot and is awaiting release, HBO’s The Last of Us series will launch in early July, before that a feature-length adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima from John Wick director Chad Stahelski has been announced and a show based on Twisted Metal, with Deadpool and Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick set to develop.

I enjoy playing games, and gaming is a passion of mine. Among my favorite games are Tears of the Kingdom, GTA, and Cyberpunk.
