Leak: video of a working PlayStation 5 dev kit appeared

In September, Jim Ryan, head of PlayStation, said that the PlayStation 5 would not only be a powerful, but also very energy efficient gaming console. It’s true that at the time it was about standby power consumption, which, to tell you the truth, few people are interested in. And what about the energy consumption in combat mode itself?

As it turned out, here the PlayStation 5 completely loses to all its predecessors. According to the measurements of one of the users, while playing Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the power consumption of the new product reaches 200 watts. For comparison, in the” extreme ” game mode at 4K resolution, the power consumption of the PlayStation 4 Pro is 150 watts. Thus, the game mode eliminates all measures aimed at reducing the power consumption of the PlayStation 5 in idle mode.

Interestingly, about the same amount – 201 W in-game mode – consumes a gaming laptop Asus Strix Scar 15, equipped with a GeForce RTX 2070 Super video card. But the laptop has more components that need to be powered. Interestingly, the 17-inch Asus Strix Scar with a GeForce RTX 2080 Super video card consumes only slightly more – 227 watts.
