The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time: How to Get Hylian Shield Early

Hylian Shield is an iconic, signature shield in Zelda that is a part of almost every installment in the series. Just like the original Zelda: Ocarina of Time, players can acquire the iconic Hylian Shield in Ocarina of Time Remake (2026). There are two methods, like in the original game, but one of those methods is different in the remake. How to Get the Hylian Shield Early in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

There are two ways to get the Hylian Shield early in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

1. Purchasing the Shield
2. Finding it for Free

Purchase the Hylian Shield Early

The first method is to purchase it from a store in Hyrule Castle Town for 60 rupees. After leaving Kokiri Forest, you can head to Hyrule Castle Town by heading north in Hyrule Field. Once you are in the town, go to the shop to the right of the fountain to purchase the Hylian Shield. This is the earliest point in the game you can get the Hylian Shield. If you make further progress in the game and reach Adult Timeline, then the merchant will move to Kakariko Village, and it will cost you 80 rupees.

Find the Hylian Shield for Free

Similar to the original game, you can find the Hylian Shield for free at the Graveyard. However, the grave where you find the shield in the original game is different in the remake. Once you are in the village, go to the southeast of the village map to enter the Graveyard. Go to the graves on the higher ground.

Note: In the original title, the grave with the Hylian Shield was on the lower ground.

Make your way to the graves on the right side and pull the second grave to reveal an entrance. Go down the grave to find the chest at the end. There will be a ReDead enemy guarding the chest. Use the Sun’s Song to stun the enemy and then eliminate him easily.

Once done, loot the chest to get the Hylian Shield for free.
