Valheim: How to Tame the Moose
Discover how to tame the Moose, a new tamable creature that roams exclusively in the Deep North biome in Valheim.
Valheim 1.0 brings a bunch of new creatures in the new Deep North biome. The Deep North biome is the ultimate goal in the game, where you progress to complete the journey. However, before taking down the final boss, there is a lot to do in the Deep North region. During your exploration of the freezing region, you might come across Moose, a new tamable creature. Moose are better than most of the creatures in the game, and taming them can benefit you in fights, as they fight alongside you. In this guide, we will explain how to tame the moose in Valheim.
How to Tame the Moose in Valheim

Taming the Moose in Valheim follows the same procedure as feeding the animal. Moose prefer the local Lingonberries as their favorite food, and that is what a player must use to tame them.
Lingonberries grow all over the Deep North biome. You can harvest them from the bushes in the snow, but do not destroy the bushes, as the berries respawn after some time. Gather at least 20 to 25 Lingonberries for the Moose, as they eat a lot before they become your pet.
Now, the next step to taming the Moose is to make them eat the Lingonberries. The best method to do it is to set up a small temporary base with a workbench and a fence around the base, then lead the Moose to the base by using yourself as bait. Once the moose is trapped, throw down the Lingonberries to make them eat. Throw around 20 to 25 Lingonberries and get to a safe distance from where the moose is not agitated.

Alternatively, you can make a big pit and trap moose inside it by baiting yourself. After that, set up a workbench and then throw the berries into the pit. Wait for the moose to get de-aggro and eat the berries.
As the moose starts to eat the berries, you will see the heart symbols appearing above his head. Now, wait until the moose is fully tamed, and then you can interact with it.
How to Ride the Moose in Valheim

Riding the moose requires a Moose Saddle. To craft a Moose Saddle, you must have a Level 2 Black Forge and the following materials.
- 4x Bloodgold: Smelt the Petrified Tissue to get Bloodgold.
- 5x Seal Pelt: Eliminating the seals in the Deep North biome drops Seal Pelt.
- 5x Timberwood: Cutting the trees in the Deep North biome drops Timberwood.
- 15x Linen Thread:Â Process the Flax in the Spinning Wheel to get Linen Thread.
After gathering all of the materials, craft the Moose Saddle at the Black Forge. Once done, place the saddle in one of your hotbar slots and press the hotbar key while standing close to the moose to ride it.

Initially, the moose level will be Frightened, so it is best to pet and feed it. Moose love Lingonberries, so feed it some berries from time to time. If the moose is low on HP, especially after a fight encounter, feed it berries to restore their health.
