Animal Crossing New Horizons Update 2.0 Secrets You May Not Know Yet

The free Animal Crossing New Horizons update 2.0, now available, has many features and details that had not been announced by Nintendo. Here we reveal its secrets.

Animal Crossing New Horizons version 2.0 is now available (in fact, many users were able to download it a day in advance ). Along with this free update, the paid DLC Happy Home Paradise (free for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers + Expansion Pack) has also been released.

However, there is no need to checkout to enjoy a massive amount of new content in Animal Crossing on Nintendo Switch. Version 2.0 is full of content and new things to do, but many of them can go unnoticed.

In fact, there have been some “secret” enhancements that Nintendo did not announce in their Animal Crossing Direct and that players have welcomed with open arms. Let’s see some of the secrets hidden in version 2.0 of Animal Crossing New Horizons.

Secrets of Animal Crossing New Horizons update 2.0 that have gone unnoticed

The first time you turn on the game after installing the update, it does a good job guiding you through the main news. The “quest” of the cafeteria, for example. To unlock The Birdseed in the Museum, you must speak to Blathers.

This will tell you to go to the pier at one of the two corners of the beach, where a new old character, the Captain, will take you to a desert island in exchange for Nook Miles. There you will meet Brewster, who will give you your first Gyroids to plant in your village.

Back on your island, go back to the Museum for Blathers to start the construction work on the cafeteria, which takes one day.

The other great novelty of the update is the Harv’s Island shopping area, and you get a letter inviting you to go. There, you can use berries to build street stalls with various shops, including a hairdresser and a fortune teller. Also, as soon as you start the game, Isabelle will explain that now you can cook.

Those five things (kitchen, cafeteria, trips with the Captain, shopping area in Cayo Fauno, and gyroids) are the main novelties of version 2.0. But there are many more things that the game does not explain to you. Although you may find many of them naturally, here we summarize them, via Animal Crossing World datamining.

  • 9 achievement sequences added to redeem for TeleNook (much needed for expensive boat trips ). They consist of digging up gyroids, planting vegetables, hanging out with the captain, drinking coffee …
  • The villagers will come to visit you at your house without warning, and they will play a little minigame of guessing cards with which you can get objects
  • Now you can store the DIY Project Instructions in the basement. Hurrah!
  • If you complete the museum’s four collections (fish, bugs, fossils, and art) will give you a poster, which you can buy later.
  • If you talk to Leif in the new commercial area of Cayo Fauno, you can pay him to clean all the weeds in your town … for 100,000 bells.
  • Although you can get the first recipes in the terminal of the town hall and the Tendo and Nendo shop, you will learn new recipes simply by catching fish or knocking down balloons.
  • Group stretching: interact with the boombox in the plaza to participate in this minigame.
  • In total, among the new furniture in the Timmy and Tommy store, the recipes, the gyroids, the items for Telenook … there are more than 9,000 new items in the game!
  • When Dreaming, you can now search for dream islands by island name.
  • In decoration mode in your home, you can now filter by types of furniture when searching among the objects in your basement
  • Characters from previous games, like Sun and Star, will make “cameos” in the cafeteria …
  • You can ask Totakeke for new songs
  • There are new designs for letters at the airfield post office
  • You will be able to use the new series 5 of amiibo cards. But the new villagers are not exclusive to amiibo: they can leave you at any time.
  • The maximum number of designs that you can upload to the Portal has been expanded to 200.

Speaking to Tom Nook and Isabelle at City Hall:

  • You can expand the basement, as part of the reforms of your house (if you have outstanding debts you must pay it before). Eye! You should have gotten all the additions to the house before you can ask to extend the basement. It costs 500,000 bells.
  • The fee to move your house around or change the exterior costs less. There are also more options to decorate it outside.
  • Municipal ordinances: by talking to Isabelle, after paying a fee, you can choose for the villagers to be more early risers, night owls, and clean. Also that they pay more for the objects when selling (and also increase the price of the stores).

At the City Hall terminal you can redeem Nook mile for all this:

  • Insular Manual Application: it is installed in the TeleNook and gives you tips to take advantage of your time on the island.
  • Patterns in My Designs: You can use new patterns on your clothes and walls
  • Camera Pro: Now you can put the camera on a tripod … or even in the first person to take photos.
  • New reactions and emotions
  • New hairstyles
  • Lots of new large furniture to decorate the town, such as fairground attractions
  • Shed furniture: A very useful piece of furniture that allows access to the basement from anywhere in town … but BEWARE, it will only come out if you have increased the basement before (see above)
  • New fences: You can’t get them all the same day, but check in regularly to see new types of fences and gates. Now you can customize them too.
  • Decoration +: You can place accent walls (one wall is of a different design than another in the same room) and hang things from the ceiling.
  • ATM: As with the shed furniture, only if you have paid for all the additions to the house, you can get an automatic “bayero” to place anywhere in town.

In the Timmy and Tommy shop you can unlock the following things:

  • Ladder kit: With 1 hand ladder and 5 normal boards, you can build a permanent ladder to leave on slopes so you don’t have to carry the hand ladder
  • Basic recipe book: you can buy more cooking recipes.

In time, we may find even more secrets from this huge update. What is certain is that all the new objects are present in this update, so there will be no exclusive furniture of the Happy Home Paradise DLC.

I enjoy playing games, and gaming is a passion of mine. Among my favorite games are Tears of the Kingdom, GTA, and Cyberpunk.
