Jeff Kaplan, the director of Overwatch and Overwatch 2, says that the cross-play is something that they are actively exploring.
Overwatch was at the time one of the biggest multiplayer phenomena the console industry had seen, which is why Blizzard looked forward to announcing an Overwatch 2. Also, although the main novelties in the sequel will come from its PvE content since the developer has confirmed to be exploring an essential feature to this day: the crossplay.
This is a confirmation that comes from Jeff Kaplan, director of Overwatch. In particular, Mr. Kaplan expressed that ” this is something (the crossplay) that we are very excited about and that we are exploring.” We will remember that during the past 2019 we already heard comments from Kaplan about the possibility of using cross-play, although at that time they did not seem to be entirely convinced.
To this day, cross-playing is an essential feature that has increasingly incorporated online character video games, such as Fortnite. Thanks to this feature, it is much easier for players to always find a community with which to play the relevant games. Therefore, a priori it should be imperative that Overwatch 2 has crossplay, and that is something they have already recognized in Blizzard.
Ultimately, we will recall that at the moment there has been no confirmation as to the release date of Overwatch 2. However, according to a leak, the game should be set to see light in this 2020, unless it is affected by a delay not yet evaluated in Blizzard.
Overwatch 2 will allow multiplayer games to be played alongside players with only the first installment.
