Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 and Xbox Series X | S versions will calm the mood, says CD Projekt

Cyberpunk 2077 leaves all Witcher parts behind in terms of the number of pre-orders. This emerges from a quarterly report from developer CD Projekt. They did not publish any specific figures, but the pre-orders were “significantly higher” than for the Witcher games. In addition, the studio expects that most players will buy the digital version – despite some bonuses that are only available in physical copies.

Digital sales are ahead

Buy digitally or physically? This question of faith concerns players again and again. In Cyberpunk 2077, the key versions seem to have the edge. CD Projekt CFO Piotr Nielubowicz stated:

When it comes to pre-orders, digital is very strong. (…) How far we will go? We honestly don’t know, definitely further than with The Witcher 3 and definitely more than 50 percent should come via the digital channel. And the story of The Witcher 3 shows that the longer a game has been on the market, the more it shifts towards the digital. With Witcher 3 it is the vast majority.

Overall, CD Projekt is very satisfied with the pre-orders so far. As expected, the number increases the closer the launch gets

What else was announced

  • Although a lot of trailers and other advertising content for Cyberpunk 2077 have already been published, marketing is to be increased significantly again in December.
  • Despite having to work from home until at least March 2021, the studio sees itself well on schedule when it comes to the DLCs for Cyberpunk 2077.
  • CD Projekt achieved a strong third quarter of 2020. The Witcher 3 in particular, but also Gwent and Thronebreaker, have sold well.
  • In the future, there should be fewer postponements in projects. According to Adam Kicinski, communication will probably also be rethought – for example, by not naming specific release dates until later.

Cyberpunk 2077 will be released on December 10, 2020.
