Hollow Knight: Silksong – Early 4 Mask Shard Locations

Similar to the original game, Hollow Knight: Silksong requires players to gather Mask Shards to increase the maximum health of Hornet. The Kingdom of Pharloom contains various types of items hidden in its areas, and the Mask Shards are some of the hardest to locate. There are around 20 Mask Shards throughout the Kingdom of Pharloom, which will increase the maximum health of Hornet by 10. However, each Mask Shard is well hidden, and reaching most of them requires the use of various abilities. In this guide, we will tell you the early 4 Mask Shard locations in Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Early 4 Mask Shard Locations in Hollow Knight: Silksong

The earliest 4 Mask Shards that players can find are located in Bone Bottom, Far Fields, and Deep Docks. Despite these mask shards being the earliest in the game, players must unlock crucial abilities, including Swift Step, Drifter’s Cloak, and Cling Grip, to be able to reach their locations.

Mask Shard #1 Location

The first Mask Shard in Hollow Knight: Silksong can be purchased from Pebb for 300 Rosaries in the Bone Bottom. Pebb is the first merchant you meet in the game. However, collecting 300 Rosaries will take you some time. There is one farming spot in Bone Bottom close to the Shakra location. Eliminate the Rosary enemies in the area and rest at the bench to respawn them. Each enemy will drop 6-8 Rosaries. After gathering 300 Rosaries, go back to Pebb and purchase the Mask Shard.

Mask Shard #2 Location

The second Mask Shard in Hollow Knight: Silksong is also in the Bone Bottom area. It is located behind a breakable wall in a pool to the left of the hidden mini-boss that spews green orbs out of its mouth. This is a missable mini-boss and is located on the top-left side of the Bone Bottom area. To get to this area, you need to gain access to the elevator to go up. From here, jump on the platforms and go left to see a few elevators in the air. You can use the Swift Step and Drifter’s Cloak together to get on the elevators and continue to the left.

If you don’t have these abilities, you will have to trick the flying enemies into flying and pogo off their heads to reach the elevator. It is very difficult to accomplish, especially if you are not good at bouncing off with a pogo attack. After reaching the left side, you will enter the boss arena. It is a difficult boss, so I would advise you to skip it and continue to the left to leave the boss arena. Use the platforms as a cover to avoid getting hit by the orbs. Go to the next room and continue ahead to fall down into the pool.

As you fall down, you will hear a chime coming from behind a wall. Attack the wall on the right in the pool to break it, and you will see the Mask Shard.

Mask Shard # 3 Location

The third Mask Shard that you can get early is in the Far Fields area. From the Seamstress NPC house, go to the right side and head up the first Wind gaze to reach the area above. Go to the left side to see a few platforms with wind gazes. Some of the platforms will have explosive lava on them, which will block the wind. You need to go up on those platforms and explode the lava to increase the pressure of the wind gaze. Continue using the Drifter’s Cloak to make your way to the room on the left side.

In the next room, you will see red spikes all over. Drop down to the ground and go to the left side to explode the lava. Head back up and use the Drifter’s Cloak to continue to the left side. As you reach the next ledge, you will hear the chime coming from the floor. If you look up, there will be an explosive lava. You need to hit the lava to drop it on the floor to make a space. Drop down to the ground below and hit the two lava to release the wind gaze.

Head back up and then use the wind gaze on the right to reach the explosive on the top. Hit the explosive to make it explode on the ground, and it will reveal the Mask Shard.

Mask Shard #4 Location

The fourth Mask Shard that you can find is in the Deep Docks area. From the bench underneath the Hunter’s March Guardian boss in The Marrow, you need to head down. Drop down to the room below and then go to the right. Here you will see a wall ahead on which you need to cling to climb. Make sure that you have the Cling Grip ability. Now, continue platforming to reach the room on the right, which will take you to Deep Docks. Here, you will enter a boss arena where you have to fight the waves of normal enemies. After defeating the enemies in the arena, go to the right to find the Mask Shard.

Upon collecting the four Mask Shards, Hornet’s maximum Health will increase by 1. It might not help you greatly, as most of the enemies can still kill you with three hits, but it is progress toward getting a longer health bar.
