How to Free Onix from the Cave in Pokémon Pokopia

Onix is a crucial Pokémon to unlock in Pokémon Pokopia, as it is the first Pokémon with Bulldoze specialty that can help you rebuild the Pokémon Center. Unlike most of the Pokémon you discover in the first area, you have to free Onix from the cave to unlock it. You have to progress in the story by completing the main requests before you can free Onix. In this guide, we will tell you how to free Onix from the cave in Pokémon Pokopia.

Where to Find Onix in Pokémon Pokopia

During your early adventure, you will get the main request to rebuild the Pokémon Center in the Withering Waste. However, reconstructing any building in Pokémon Pokopia requires a Pokémon with a Bulldoze specialty. The only Pokémon with Bulldoze specialty in Withering Waste is Onix. You can find Onix inside the cave near the shore (northwest). However, before you can explore the cave system, you must unlock the Rock Smash move.

Use the Rock Smash move to break the blocks and find Onix behind hard blocks. Unfortunately, you cannot break these blocks, as you will have to increase the area’s humidity to soften them.

How to Free Onix in Pokémon Pokopia

After locating Onix, head to Professor Tangrowth to accept the “Yawn Up A Storm” main request. You will have to find Slowpoke near the shore and bring it to the Pokémon Center. However, there will not be enough humidity for Slowpoke to yawn and cause rain to follow. To make Slowpoke yawn a 100-point yawn, you must raise humidity.

After making Slowpoke yawn, head south to the beach. Here you will witness a Kyogre. To reach Kyogre, complete the missing bridge. After that, speak with Kyogre, and it will make it rain all over the Withering Waste.

Now, head to Onix’s location in the cave, and use the Rock Smash move on the blocks to break them. As you break all the blocks, you will get to free Onix from the cave. After that, you can bring Onix to the Pokémon Center to begin rebuilding it.
