Horses have arrived in Palia as the first type of mounts with the new Royal Highlands expansion. The Royal Highlands is the biggest-ever adventure zone, filled with ancient human ruins and wide open spaces, perfect for exploring on horseback. Players can now officially get their first horse by visiting the new adventure zone. However, there are some requirements that players must complete to unlock their first horse. In this guide, we will explain how to get your first horse in Palia.

How to Get Your First Horse in Palia

Acquiring your first Horse in Palia will require you to complete the “Before the Dawn” quest for Hassian. It is a small quest to Dawnspur, one of the breeds of horses in Palia. As players arrive at the Royal Highlands adventure zone, they will get to pursue this quest to unlock their first horse.

How to Reach Royal Highlands in Palia

Now, before players can start the “Before the Dawn” quest, they must access the Royal Highlands adventure zone. Players can access the Royal Highlands adventure zone from the De Mer Docks in Elderwood. The De Mer Docks location is on the southwest side of Elderwood. Once there, players can find a door at the docks beside a boat to travel to the Royal Highlands adventure zone.

NOTE: To access the Royal Highlands adventure zone, the player must have completed the “Like a Bird” quest.

If you have completed the Like a Bird quest and have a glider, you can access the Royal Highlands zone without any restrictions. Moreover, the players who have completed the Elderwood main story will get to pursue the new story quests, starting with “A Royal Welcome”. A Royal Welcome quest starts automatically and takes the player to De Mer Docks to access the Royal Highlands.

How to Complete the Before the Dawn Quest in Palia

Upon arriving at the Royal Highlands, a brief cutscene will play. After the cutscene, the players can visit the camp to meet with Subira, Tamala, and Ulfe. From here, they can continue ahead to find Hassian standing next to a horse stuck in Amber Echo. Speak with Hassian to learn about Dawnspur breed. This will initiate the “Before the Dawn” quest, requiring you to free Dawnspur (horse) from Amber prison. Equip your Pick tool and start hitting the orange Amber crystals on the feet of the horse.

After freeing the horse, speak with Hassian again, and he will request you to bring some flowers for Dawnspur. There will be some Dawnspur Lily flowers around the horse. Go and forage three flowers in the area, and then bring them to Hassian. Go through the dialogues, and the quest will conclude. As a reward, you will unlock Dawnspur, your first horse in Palia.

How to Equip the Horse and Basic Mechanics

Upon unlocking the horse in Palia, you can spawn or equip it through the tools menu. Open the tools menu, and you will see the horse at the bottom. Move the cursor on the horse to equip it. Riding the horse introduces new mechanics. You can raise and lower the speed of the horse by pressing W and S (PC). Moreover, there is a stamina bar for the horse. The faster you go, the quicker the stamina bar will drain. However, there are some glowing stamina charges that you can pick up while riding the horse to replenish the horse’s stamina. Other than that, the controls are basic and user-friendly for controlling the horse.
