How to Shield Surf in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom allows players to think out of the box and do all unimaginable things with the equipment and objects that they hold. One of the favorite things of the players in the previous Zelda game was the Shield Surf which allows players to surf on their shield. This mechanic is also in the new Zelda game but its controls are a bit changed.

In this guide, we’ll tell you how to Shield Surf in Tears of the Kingdom.

How to Shield Surf in Tears of the Kingdom

In order to Shield Surf in Tears of the Kingdom, players will have to perform the following actions in order.

  • Block (ZL) + Jump (X) + A

When these actions are performed correctly in the right order, Link will start surfing on the equipped Shield. However, if you are not equipping any shield at the moment, the Shield Surf will not work. Make sure to equip a shield from inventory by pressing the Left Arrow Button and using Right Stick to select.

The Shield Surf is greatly done on certain surfaces. The best surfaces for shield surf are Snow, Sand, and Short Grass. All three of these surfaces increase the speed of Link while surfing on the shield. However, none of the surfaces is safe for your shield. While doing the Shield Surfing, the durability of your shield will get lower and it will eventually break. You can use fuse items to your shield but it does not make any difference because the durability of the shield remains the same.

You can use a low-level shield for surfing through the slope of surfaces to traverse greater distances and save the ones you want for combat.
