Jagged Alliance 3 - Position Mercs

Jagged Alliance 3 is a tactical role-playing strategy game where things can change on a dime during combat. As the combat of the game follows a turn-based mechanic, players will not get much room to position the Mercs during combat which leads to several injuries on the squad. To overcome this, players will have to learn better positioning for the Mercs during the mission and before engaging in combat.

In this guide, we’ll be telling you how to position mercs perfectly for combat in Jagged Alliance 3.

How to Position Mercs for Combat in Jagged Alliance 3

Combat takes place in Real-Time in Jagged Alliance 3 and it follows a turn-based mechanic where each mercenary will get one chance to make the move. It can be shooting an enemy or changing position whether going into the cover or moving a position of a mercenary. It can be difficult in several scenarios if not countered carefully. The best approach before engaging in combat is to scout the area to learn how many enemies are in the area. However, it is not simple as it sounds because enemies move with the patrol and can detect mercenaries if they are not hidden.

To overcome the issue of getting detected before combat, players need to master stealth. Use the Z and X Keys to quickly change the stances of the mercenaries to either go crouch or prone. Pressing the keys is faster than normally clicking through the stances and it reduces the chances of getting detected by enemies. To scout the area, players need to stealthily move the mercenaries to know about enemies as well as locate the Vantage Points in the area. Vantage Points give more cover and more accuracy against enemies so securing Vantage Points will increase the chances of victory. Pressing the O Button will bring up the Overview of the area through which players can easily discover best positions for engaging combat.

To position the squad perfectly, players need to split up the mercenaries and keep them in hiding until all the mercenaries are in position. It will allow players to come at the enemies with firepower from all possible positions. During the combat, players also need to keep the mercenaries in cover to neglect any possible injury. The cover is detected by a Blue Shield when standing near a structure. If the shield is red then players will have to either crouch or be prone to get a blue shield. Standing with a red shield will have a higher chance of getting an injury.

The positioning aspect of the game is very crucial to how you engage enemies in the mission. If not done properly, it can cost you your mercenaries and a loss of thousands of dollars in-game. So, before going straight to the fight with the enemies, discover every possible scenario to tackle the fight.
