Japanese analysts say that PS5 and Xbox Series may be the last gaming devices from Sony and Microsoft
The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles that debuted this week may become the last specialized gaming devices on the market from Sony and Microsoft, after which gaming will finally be captured by the growing cloud services such as Google Stadia and GeForce Now, experts from the Japanese analytical Agency Citi Securities Japan believe.
According to them, Sony and Microsoft will try to stretch the life cycle of their new consoles, as the cost of producing iron is only increasing and it is increasingly difficult to beat back the costs.
In their note to investors, analysts point out that against this background, more affordable mobile phones, tablets, and PCs look advantageous, where cloud technologies can significantly develop over the 6-7 years of the usual console lifecycle, which will make consoles meaningless.

Earlier, Ubisoft President Yves Guillemot made a similar prediction. He believes that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X generation will be the last.
Electronic Arts also predicts that the consoles will disappear in the future. By the end of the next generation, there may be no need for them, says the publishing house’s Vice President for Strategic Development.
“There are smart people working in console manufacturing companies, and I think they will find new roles for them. It’s possible that consoles will actually become part of smart TVs. Or the next PlayStation will exist in your phone, transmitting a picture to any screen in your house,” he says.
