“Our Games Are Missing Female Characters”: Phil Spencer Talks About Relaunching Perfect Dark For Xbox Series X | S
The head of the gaming division of Microsoft Corporation Phil Spencer commented on the development of the restart of the Perfect Dark franchise from The Initiative. The top manager focused on the fact that the central character of the series is a female character – Joanna Dark. This should have a positive impact on the Xbox Game Studios portfolio, as it so happens that there are not many female characters in Microsoft games.
“I think it’s great that we can now pay attention to the female character. In games from our internal studios, female heroines are missing. Joanna’s existence provides developers with a whole layer of relevant opportunities to work with the image of a strong heroine,” Spencer said.
The Perfect Dark relaunch was announced for Xbox Series X | S and PC with a short teaser in December 2020. According to rumors, the game may come out in 2023.
The Perfect Dark franchise was launched by Rare Studios with support from Nintendo in 2000 on the Nintendo 64 console. The main series consists of two first-person shooters about the adventures of bounty hunter Joanna Dark.
The original Perfect Dark scored 97 out of 100 on Metacritic.
