Starfield: How to Smuggle and Sell Contraband

Contraband is one of the illegal items that you cannot bring to civilized planets like New Atlantis or Akila. Whenever you jump to New Atlantis or Akila, the Security Ships will scan you for any Contraband if you are holding them. If you get caught by the scanners, they will not allow you to land in civilized cities. Since the Contraband can be sold for a lot of credit, it is one of the quickest ways to make money in Starfield.

How to Smuggle Contraband into the Civilized Colonies

Now, before you get to sell the Contraband, the first step is to smuggle them to the planet without getting scanned by the Security Ships. To smuggle the Contraband, you need to store the Contraband in your Ship’s Storage before getting scanned and landing on the planet. You need to store the Contraband before getting scanned. Simply open up the inventory and press the LB to open the Cargo Hold and then go to your inventory and store all of the Contraband in the Misc tab to your ship.

Once you have stored all of the Contraband, let the Security Ships run the scan and once you are clear, you will get the “I Use Them for Smuggling” achievement the first time you smuggle the Contraband. After that, simply select the landing point for your ship on the planet.

How to Sell Contraband in Starfield

After you have landed in one of the civilized colonies with Contraband on your ship, place the Contraband in your inventory from the ship’s inventory. It is because most of the vendors don’t let you sell items directly from your ship so, it is better to take them along with you. Now, you need to make your way to the Trade Authority. They can easily be found in The Well area in New Atlantis.

Go down to the Well by the elevator and make your way to the Trade Authority. Talk to the woman at the reception and sell her the Contraband from your inventory to earn easy credits.

It is better to sell the Contraband or other illegal/stolen items in the Well instead of going to the Commercial Area of New Atlantis. The vendors in the Commercial area might not buy Contraband from you or you can get scanned while walking in the city which can make things difficult for you.
