nintendo switch successor will have upscaling technology like dlss

Nintendo Switch Successor is yet to be revealed, most probably in the first quarter of 2025 but we have got some new information on its capabilities. On January 1, a patent was published which was originally filed in July 2023, revealing a new system that upscales the image of one resolution to a higher one. Well, its working is similar to DLSS, and it will be coming in Nintendo Switch Successor.

For now, the name of this technology has not been disclosed, but surely Nintendo will speak about it on the day of the reveal. Moreover, a Journalist named Laura Kate Dale notes that the new patent also mentions that it can use upscaling technology to reduce the game size to fit it onto like game cards.

Perhaps the most interesting piece of this, after a lengthy read, is that one example use case given is explicitly to reduce overall game sizes, to fit a modern game onto “smaller capacity physical media”, e.g. Switch carts, which get exponentially more expensive for larger cart capacities.”

Explaining further she clarifies, “The example given is that a game witth native 4K textures might need a 60GB download, but a 1080 native version might only need 20GB (which would allow it to fit on a 32GB Switch Cart, the current max size Nintendo produces for Switch 1). The idea being to do a 4X upscale on the device in realtime.”

Also of note, all examples given in the patent talk about speeds and accuracy of either 540p to 1080p or 1080p to 4K upscales.”

Let us know what you think of the new upscaling technology for Nintendo Switch Successor, and whether it would allow other big games to be ported for it.

Playing Video Games is the very first hobby that I partake in and it became my favorite hobby. Played Unreal Tournament 2004 as my first game which made me a fan of FPS Games. Story and Adventure Games are still my Cup of Tea to go with as they give more detailing to the described worlds and characters. I love to help out my fellow gamers across all over the world by making my publications.
