Solarpunk: How to Get and Build an Airship

Airship is the main way of exploring the distant floating islands in Solarpunk. As you forage, craft, and build on your starting island, you quickly want to work on reaching the other islands for further progression. The other islands hold rare materials, essential for advanced crafting recipes that will help you automate your main base. However, setting up all these items takes time, and it all starts with getting and building an airship. In this guide, we will go over how to get and build an airship in Solarpunk.

How to Get the Airship in Solarpunk

Getting the Airship in Solarpunk is only possible by building one yourself at the Airship Dock. The Airship Dock is the hangar for the airship, and before you can get the airship, you need to build the Airship Dock. Moreover, building the Airship Dock and the Airship itself will cost a number of materials, including Crashed Airship Components.

Essential Progression and Materials for the Airship in Solarpunk

There is a certain progression required before you can build the Airship in Solarpunk. The crucial progression is to reach Research Table Tier 2. This will give you access to the Furnace, which is essential for turning iron ores into iron. Moreover, the Tier 2 will also unlock the recipe for the Airship Dock, which you have to research prior to crafting it. In addition to the iron, you also need to get a decent amount of Cotton to turn it into Cloth. Every time you forage Cotton from the ground, it gives you a seed. Make sure to plant cotton and grow it to have a consistent supply of cotton. Lastly, here are all the materials that you will need to gather for building the Airship Dock and the Airship.

Where to Find the Crashed Airship Components in Solarpunk

The Crashed Airship Components are a key item for building the Airship in Solarpunk. At the starting island, you can find a crashed airship on top of a hill in the southwest side of the map. From the main lake on the island, go directly south, and when you reach a high hill, craft some ladders to reach the hill. Once there, you can find the crashed airship on the cliff. Interact with it to get the Crashed Airship Components.

How to Build the Airship in Solarpunk

Now that you have all the essential materials for the Airship, it’s time to build it. First of all, you need to build the Airship Dock. Make sure to research its recipe from the Research Table. Once done, craft the Airship Dock and place it somewhere at the edge of the island. After that, head into the dock and interact with the workbench inside it. This will allow you to build the Airship with all the required materials at your disposal.

Once you have built the Airship, it will appear at the dock. You can enter the airship and fly it to reach the other islands. However, initially, you will only be able to explore a small zone (white outline on the map). As you trade more items to the robot (NPC), the explorable region will expand.
