TBH: Task Bar Hero is an idle RPG that you can launch and see your pixelated group of heroes clear stages on their own. The game is designed in such a way that you can leave it running to farm gold, gear, XP, kills, and so on, for progression. Although the game does not require much attention from a player during the action, the in-game mechanics of Rune, Cube, and Hero Composition are something you spend most of your time on. In this beginner guide for TBH: Task Bar Hero, we will explain the early route and the core mechanics to help you progress.

TBH Beginner Guide – Tips & Tricks

Understand the Core Loop of the Game

TBH: Task Bar Hero plays differently than regular RPG titles. The core gameplay loop revolves around selecting your party and deploying it to farm gold, gear, XP, and other essentials. All the fights and stage clears happen on their own, while you can manage your stash and other mechanics. After farming stages and high-value loot from bosses, you can sell the loot at the Steam Market and then repeat the whole process.

Select the Starting Hero

TBH includes six classes; three of them are free, two of them are part of paid DLCs, and one is part of a free DLC. The three free classes are Knight, Ranger, and Sorcerer. Knight is a tank with high HP that can stay in front of the line to absorb initial hits. Ranger is a swift, high-DPS class that can clear out waves of enemies easily. Sorcerer excels in AOE clearing with magic attacks.

Hunter and Slayer are part of the paid DLCs. You have to purchase the DLCs to pick these heroes in your team. Lastly, Priest is a part of a free DLC, which you can claim instantly. Priest is one of the best heroes to make an effective team composition. However, for a new player, choosing either Knight or Ranger will do you solid.

Key Things to Do in Early Hours

During the early hours, you want to focus on unlocking the main progression mechanics of the game. Moreover, I do suggest that you unlock the Priest simply by installing the Priest DLC. Although you do not have to use it in the early hours, you might want to once you have all three hero slots.

Speaking of hero slots, your main focus in the early game is clearing stages until you reach Level 3. This should unlock the Rune Tree, a progressive tech tree that grants passive bonuses. Moreover, this tech tree is key to unlocking the rest of the Hero Slots.

Once you have farmed enough to reach Level 4, you will unlock the Cube. The Cube is like a central crafting hub in TBH. This feature offers eight different functions, some of which you will be using after every run.

Another thing that is essential to do quite early in the game is to turn on the Auto-Retry feature of the game. Open the game’s settings and turn it on, so you don’t have to manually retry a stage.

Do not be afraid to use the Blue Portal (fast-travel) during the stage. This will take you to cleared stages, so that you can farm more gold, gear, and XP to strengthen the heroes.

Ultimately, you want to make the best starting party to start farming the stages effectively. Once you have access to three Hero Slots, you can create the perfect party. You need to use the Knight, Priest, and Ranger to farm across the stages.

Runes to Focus on First in Rune Tree

The Rune Tree is the main way of progression in TBH to strengthen your party for effective farms and high-skilled stage clears. Runes in the Rune Tree are purchased from Gold (the main currency). The Rune Tree goes in a separate direction, each one offering different bonuses. You can increase Gold, XP, HP, Attack, and Speed for all Heroes, auto-unlock Chests, increase inventory slots, and more. The Runes that you unlock first are as follows.

  • Rune of Command: +1 Hero Slot
  • Rune of Wealth: +1 Gold
  • Rune of War: +1 Attack per Hero
  • Rune of Awakening: +1 Skill slot per Hero
  • Rune of Growth: +1 XP Bonus

How to Utilize Cube

During the early game, you will come across various gear items that can easily take up space in the stash. You always want to make room in the stash before you start a run. To clear up the space, you want to utilize the Synthesis, Alchemy, and Crafting functions of the Cube.

  • Synthesis: Place nine items of one rarity to produce a random item of a higher rarity. If you have a lot of common items, place any nine in the Cube to make an Uncommon item.
  • Alchemy: Place the unwanted gear into the Cube to turn it into Gold. This is the way of selling items in TBH.

Crafting: Crafting is crucial for acquiring Accessory Items in TBH. Throughout your farming routes, you will come across materials. Use these materials to get accessories, as they do not drop from Chests in Act 1 to Act 3.

Playing Video Games is the very first hobby that I partake in and it became my favorite hobby. Played Unreal Tournament 2004 as my first game which made me a fan of FPS Games. Story and Adventure Games are still my Cup of Tea to go with as they give more detailing to the described worlds and characters. I love to help out my fellow gamers across all over the world by making my publications.
