Nintendo Switch Online Japan Subscription Prices Are Going Up
If you are using a Japanese region account for your Nintendo Switch Online subscription, it is time to check your auto-renewal settings. Nintendo has officially announced a major price revision for its online services in Japan, affecting both individual and family memberships across all standard and expansion tiers.
Nintendo Switch Online Japan Subscription Prices Are Going Up
For years, Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) has remained one of the most budget-friendly console subscription services on the market, especially when compared to the rising costs of PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass. However, economic shifts and regional adjustments have finally caught up. Starting July 1, 2026, Japanese players—and international gamers who maintain Japanese accounts to access exclusive regional content—will see a noticeable bump in their subscription fees.
The old rates are valid strictly until June 30, 2026, at 23:59 (11:59 PM). The new pricing structure goes into full effect on July 1, 2026, at 00:00 AM. This means any renewals or new purchases made after this cutoff will automatically be billed at the higher rate.

Here is the exact breakdown of the current vs. new pricing (all listed prices are fully inclusive of Japanese consumption tax):
Standard Nintendo Switch Online Tier
This tier grants access to online multiplayer, cloud saves, and the classic NES, SNES, and Game Boy libraries.
- Individual Plan (1 Month / 30 Days): Old Price: 306 yen ➡️ New Price: 400 yen (+94 yen increase)
- Individual Plan (3 Months / 90 Days): Old Price: 815 yen ➡️ New Price: 1,000 yen (+185 yen increase)
- Individual Plan (12 Months / 365 Days): Old Price: 2,400 yen ➡️ New Price: 3,000 yen (+600 yen increase)
- Family Plan (12 Months / 365 Days): Old Price: 4,500 yen ➡️ New Price: 5,800 yen (+1,300 yen increase)
Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Tier
This premium tier adds Sega Genesis, Game Boy Advance, and Nintendo 64 titles alongside major DLC expansions, such as the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass.
- Individual Plan (12 Months / 365 Days): Old Price: 4,900 yen ➡️ New Price: 5,900 yen (+1,000 yen increase)
- Family Plan (12 Months / 365 Days): Old Price: 8,900 yen ➡️ New Price: 9,900 yen (+1,000 yen increase)
If your current subscription is set to expire soon, or if you have been thinking about extending your membership, doing so before the midnight deadline is highly recommended.

Nintendo allows users to purchase and stack prepaid membership codes or digital extensions up to a certain limit. By purchasing an extension right now, you can lock in the current, cheaper rates for another full year before the price hike officially goes live.
While price increases are never pleasant news for consumers, Nintendo’s online ecosystem remains relatively affordable compared to its console competitors. However, if you are managing multiple regional accounts, keeping track of these adjustments is essential to avoid unexpected surprises on your upcoming billing statements.
