Diablo 3: Darkness in Tristram - This is how you get the "Classic Angel"!

Since 3 January 2020, the annual time-traveling event called “the darkening of Tristram”, which was once introduced for Diablo 3, is back. Besides an exclusive Diablo 1-style dungeon, there are also some very nice rewards here. In this game tip, we show you how to get the “Classic Angel” portrait frame.

The new year has begun and Diablo fans will be able to relive the first part of the hack & slay saga as a Diablo 3-style “remake” for a month from 1 January 2022! On the occasion of the 20th birthday of the Lord of Terror, the annual event “The Darkening of Tristramm” appeared in Reaper of Souls Patch 2.4.3. In the exclusive Diablo 1 time-travelling event, which only takes place in the month of January, the original version returns with 16 dungeon levels and all 4 main bosses as in-game play. The original music, a special graphics filter, a limit on the maximum frame rate, the restriction to 8 directions of movement as well as once-popular loot such as the Harlequin Crown will ensure the most authentic gameplay experience possible.

There are also a few rewards for collectors in this January event, including the Crown Calf Pet or the very beautiful “Classic Angel” portrait frame. We’ll show you how to get it in the following game tip.

Diablo 3: Darkening of Tristram – The Achievement “I sense a soul searching for answers…”

The Classic Angel portrait frame can be earned during the event “The Darkening of Tristram”. The Diablo 1 Classic Frame is unlocked after completing the player achievement “I sense a soul searching for answers…” when you have collected all seven pages of scribblings from a cultist. The event with the cultists is officially declared as a “pre-event” for the eclipse in Tristram but is available for the entire duration in the month of January.

“I sense a soul in search of answers…” (I Sense a Soul in Search of Answers” is a very well-known dialogue by the witch Adria and another reference to the first part of the Diablo trilogy. The portrait frame “Classic Angel”, which you can create after unlocking it via the collection interface, has the subtitle “A timeless guardian of order looks down on you”.

Diablo 3: Darkening of Tristram – Acquiring the Scribblings of a Cultist

Seven different pages of cultist scribbles must be collected to complete the “I sense a soul searching for answers…” achievement required for the Classic Angel portrait frame. These scribbles drop from the Temporal Priests and Temporal Initiates respectively, who can be found in various bounty zones during the adventure mode event.

The Temporal Priest “pack” – one priest and several initiands – looks like grey versions of the well-known Diablo 3 cultists and only appears once per zone. When all members of the priest pack have been killed, a randomly rolled, account-bound page with scribblings of a cultist will drop in any case. You must find seven pages, and duplicates are possible.

Temporal Priest Packs have been spotted in the following zones:

  • Act 1: Grove of Lamentations, The Festering Woods, Cathedral – Levels 1, 2 and 4, Halls of Agony – Levels 1, 2 and 3
  • Act 2: The Oasis of Dahlgur, The Desolate Sands
  • Act 3: The Bastion Depths – Levels 1, 2, and 3, Stone Fort, Rakkis Crossing, Arreat Crater – Level 1, Tower of the Damned – Level 1, The Core of Arreat
  • Act 4: Gardens of Hope – Levels 1, 2, and 3, The Silver Tower – Levels 1 and 2, Gate to Hell – Level 1
  • Act 5: Old Town of Westmark, Noble Quarter of Westmark, Path of the Sunken, Battlefields of Eternity

Diablo 3: Darkening of Tristram – Cultist Scribblings – The Texts

The seven pages of Cultist Scribblings have the following texts. You can also find screenshots of each page in the image gallery below.

Cultist Scribblings – Page 1

“Word has reached us that Adria has been slain by the Nephalem. Perhaps she is now reunited with Maghda, somewhere…. There are a few of us left who remember the power they once held…. And their promises.”

Cultist Scribblings – Page 2

“One thing is certain for me: whatever Maghda left behind is ours alone. It is imperative that we secure her possessions before anyone else can pounce on them. Once the Nephalem is gone, we will act.”

Cultist Scribblings – Page 3

“It has taken some time, but we have scoured every corner of the Blood Marshes, tracking down almost everything we knew existed, with the exception of Adria’s journals. Perhaps it is also better that her innermost thoughts remain a mystery to us.”

Cultist Scribblings – page 4

“There is much in Adria’s runes and spellbooks that I do not understand, though I have pored over each page for a long time. I was not aware of how much her magical knowledge exceeded mine. This will not be an easy task.”

Cultist Scribblings – Page 5

“After hours and hours of studying, I tired of the pointless frustration and tossed Adria’s books aside. As I sat cursing, I suddenly heard a faint whisper coming from the shadows…. Something had sensed my suffering and was responding.”

Cultist Scribblings – page 6

“I begged the voices from the shadows to give me insight into Adria’s memories. If I can learn from her example, perhaps I can find a way for those of us who have remained true to the Cause. The Nephalem may have destroyed our plans, but all hope is not lost…”

Cultist Scribblings – Page 7

“The shadows have answered me. Old Tristram will come alive again, but only for a short time. By then I must have unlocked the secrets of the witch.”

I enjoy playing games, and gaming is a passion of mine. Among my favorite games are Tears of the Kingdom, GTA, and Cyberpunk.
