Just like in its predecessor, Tears of the Kingdom also has a Tame mechanic that will allow you to get yourself a Horse to traverse greater distances more easily. You would not want to run across the whole map as it will cost you a lot of time so, it is best that you get a horse as soon as possible in the game.

Horses can be found in a small groups running around in the fields throughout the Hyrule World. In order to mount the Horse successfully, you will have to sneak up behind it and then tame it. You will have to Tame the horse in order to successfully mount it. If you fail in taming, the horse will kick you off of its back and run away.

You need to go towards the Southeast from the Lookout Landing and you will reach a Stable named “Riverside Stable” in the Hyrule Field area. You need to go directly in front of the stable and you will see a number of horses running around in the fields. You need to Crouch by pressing the Left Stick and sneak up behind a horse.

If you run or walk, the horse will get scared and run away so, you must sneak up on the horse.
