How to Unlock the Map in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has the same big map as the Breath of the Wild but there are some interesting additions in the Hyrule World that players will get to discover as they play the game. Purah Pad is the only accessory item that is used to see the map and once you have made your way down to the Surface, you will see that the whole Hyrule Map is blank on your Purah Pad.

In this guide, we’ll tell you how to Unlock the Map in Tears of the Kingdom.

How to Unlock the Map in Tears of the Kingdom

To unlock the Map in Tears of the Kingdom, you will have to activate the Skyview Towers in the Hyrule World. There are 15 Skyview Towers in total and all of them are spread around the Hyrule World. Each of the Skyview Towers unlocks its own section of the World Map. If you open the World Map on Purah Pad, you will see Blue Lines which indicate the sections of Hyrule World. However, there are three different layers of maps that you will unlock.

  • Surface
  • Sky
  • Depths

The Skyview Towers are the biggest structures in any of the regions of the Hyrule World and the very first Skyview Tower that you will come by is in the Lookout Landing area. You will have to complete the main quest named “Crysis at Hyrule Castle” which will unlock the Paraglider for you and you will get to activate the very first Skyview Tower of the game. To activate the Skyview Tower, you will have to do the following steps.

  • Open the Gate of the Tower.
  • Examine the device in the tower to activate the travel point.
  • Stand in the center of the tower and examine it to launch yourself into the sky.
  • Link will scan the area with the Purah Pad and the current section of the map will be updated.

By activating the Skyview Towers, you will reveal the Surface Map as well as the Sky Map on your Purah Pad. They both require the activation of Skyview Towers to unlock so, you will have to look for the Skyview Towers in each of the sections to reveal the two layers of the Hyrule Map.

How to Unlock Depths Map in Tears of the Kingdom

The Depths are the cavern areas under the surface. Once players have obtained the Paraglider, they will be able to jump into the depths to explore the underground map of Hyrule. The Depths are big as the whole Hyrule World so, you can literally explore what depths hold for you. In order to unlock the Depths Map, you will have to activate the Lightroots.

The Lightroots are the giant source of Light that will illuminate the darkness when it’s activated. Once you examine the Lightroot by going near it, the whole area will light up and it will update the Purah Pad. You can see the updated Depths World on your Purah Pad. You will have to go to each Lightroot in the Depths to unlock the complete Depths Map.

To find Lightroots more easily, switch to Surface Map, and pin all the Shrines on the Map because the Lightroots are directly under the Shrines. So, if you follow the pinpoint toward the shrine eventually, you will reach the Lightroot.
