Is Resident Evil 8 less Resident Evil because of its theme and first-person view?

Back in the day, when Resident Evil 7 was unveiled, there was much debate among fans of the horror series that Capcom had betrayed the series’ roots with its commitment to the first-person view. Some even believed that this new adventure would follow in the footsteps of other big-name games such as Amnesia, but the reality is that despite the initial surprise and criticism, it was a fairly faithful chapter to the essence of Resident Evil, with puzzles, exploration, low ammunition, and fearsome enemies capable of killing you in moments.

Since the release of the fantastic Resident Evil 7 we’ve enjoyed the remake of two of the series’ classics, with its third-person view, but Resident Evil 8 follows in the footsteps of its more direct predecessor, once again opting for the subjective view. Does this make it any less Resident Evil? This is already an interesting topic in itself, and even today, several years after the release of RE7, it’s still a topic of discussion among some fans, but there’s more to it than that.

Is Resident Evil 8 any less Resident Evil because of its theme and first-person view?

The fact that Resident Evil 8 features werewolves and other creatures, far from the traditional zombies, has led some fans to suggest that the series has lost its way, while others have applauded the variety of monsters shown in these first trailers, as in addition to the lycanthropes, there are also a number of female vampire-like killers and even monks from beyond the grave lurking in the shadows.

I enjoy playing games, and gaming is a passion of mine. Among my favorite games are Tears of the Kingdom, GTA, and Cyberpunk.
