Nintendo became the leader of the British gaming market in September
According to analysts from GfK Entertainment, the best — selling console in the UK in September was the Nintendo Switch-its circulation for the month exceeded 146 thousand devices. This is a 90% increase compared to September 2019.
In total, from January to September 2020, Nintendo sold about 1.3 million switches in the UK, which is 34.2% more than in the same period in 2019.
Nintendo has also become a leader in the market for disc versions and game cartridges. The Japanese company released 32.3% of the 1.07 million copies sold in the UK in September. 41.7% of all disc copies sold were on Switch.
The total circulation of disc versions and cartridges of games in the UK market in September 2020 fell by 35.6% compared to September 2019. In annual terms, revenue also decreased by 45%. Analysts from GfK explained this by the fact that in September 2019, FIFA 20 and a number of other major games were released: Borderland 3, The Legend of Zelda: link’s Awakening, Gears 5 — while in September 2020 there were no such releases.
