However, packing up the house leads to a strange mystery about Grandmother which takes Tess and Opal (Tess’s Mother) to solving a mystery regarding a mysterious man.

This guide will walk you through all the main story elements in Open Roads by covering all the main objectives in each Chapter of the game.

Open Roads Complete Game Walkthrough

The walkthrough of Open Roads takes place among seven different chapters which initially are played in a single playthrough but after finishing the game for the first time, you will be able to select any chapter to complete any leftover achievement or trophy.

NOTE: Read our full guide on all achievements/trophies in Open Roads.

Chapter: Helen’s House

The first chapter begins in Tess’s Room where you have to pack up almost everything inside the room. Packing up the items inside the room is also tied to an achievement called “A Lot to Unpack”. Search every drawer and cabinet in the room to pack everything you can find. Upon packing all of the things, go to the door and interact with the to-do list on the door to cut the “Pack up rest of room!” objective.

Leave the room to see a cutscene in which Opal calls Tess to the basement. Go through the dialogues and select the dialogue option you see fit to continue ahead. Once the conversation is over, you can head back up the stairs and get two more achievements, one in the kitchen and one in the living room.

Head further up the stairs in the main hallway and it will start another cutscene. Go through the dialogues and then make your way to Helen’s (Grandmother) Room located left of Tess’s room. Go and interact with the cabinet beside the bed to find a hook pole. It will start a cutscene and after the cutscene, go out of Helen’s Room and look up to the ceiling to find the entrance to the Attic.

Interact with the Attic door to open it and head up to the attic. Once there, go to the end of the attic to find a crate with a sheet on it. Interact with it to remove the sheet and it will start a cutscene. After the cutscene, open the suitcase in front to pick up a photo. Have a small chat with Opal again and then remove another sheet inside the briefcase and pick up the postcard.

It will initiate another conversation sequence so complete it and then pick up the red diary beneath the postcard. Open the diary and go to the next page to find a Secret Key. Another short conversation takes place between Tess and Opal and it will conclude the first chapter of the game. It also unlocks the “Problem Attic” achievement.

Chapter: Hit the Road

As the next scene begins, you will be in the car with Opal driving to Summer Home. Here, you can get two achievements before you progress in the main story. One is by interacting with the radio and the other one is by interacting with the backpack on the backseat. To progress in the chapter, look at the glovebox and interact with it to pick up your phone.

Text Francine and continue the conversation with her until you drop the phone back. Pick up the phone again and text Dad. Now, speak with Opal and choose the first dialogue option to continue on and as the conversation ends, the phone will ring. Pick up the phone and have a conversation with Dad through texting. As the conversation ends, a cutscene will start and it will conclude the chapter and you will unlock the “Are We There Yet?” achievement.

Chapter: Summer Home

Reaching the Summer Home will begin a conversation sequence so, go through the dialogues to continue ahead. The main door of the Summer Home will be locked and to get yourself inside the door, go to the left side of the property and you will find a small hatch under the house in front of the Dog’s House. Interact with the hatch and it will begin another cutscene.

Go through the conversation to enter inside the hatch and then go to the center of the house to find a hatch leading inside the house. This will initiate another cutscene with Opal so go through the dialogues to continue ahead. Here, you can unlock an achievement by heading into the bathroom and picking up the photo placed on the mirror. After that, go to Aunt August’s Room at the end of the hallway.

It will initiate another cutscene and after the cutscene, pick up the Key from the shelf cabinet. Additionally, there is another achievement that you can unlock by using a map found inside the bottom drawer. Now, go out of the door and interact with the van’s backdoor to get inside using the key. Go to the front and interact with the Glove Compartment to find a Screwdriver.

Exit the van and go through the dialogues to continue ahead. Head inside the Summer Home and then use the Screwdriver to unlock Helen’s Room located in front of the laundry room. Enter the room and interact with the desk in front. It will start a cutscene and you will get to use the Key that you find in the Attic to unlock it.

Here you will find a couple of Sympathy Cards and a note. Interact with the note and flip it to call Mom to continue ahead. Go through the dialogues and then you will be able to complete the chapter by leaving the Summer Home. It will unlock the “Going Mobile” achievement.

Chapter: Motel

As the next scene begins, you will be in a Motel and have a conversation with Opal. Go through the dialogues and reach over to the table in front to pick up the phone. Now, text Francine and then your Dad. After texting Francine and Dad, you will put the phone in your pocket and here you will be able to get an achievement if you search for the Pills inside Opal’s Briefcase.

For progression simply, interact with the backpack on the table and Opal will bring you food. You can unlock another achievement by finishing the Burger. Interact with the books to finish the homework and you will get a call from Aunt August. Go through the dialogues and then go to the bed to conclude the chapter. It will unlock the Room Service achievement.

Chapter: Crossing Borders

This is a short chapter and you need to progress it by looking for your phone. First, look in the backpack on the back seat and then interact with the glove compartment. This will automatically start a cutscene in which you will ultimately get in a fight with Opal. After the dialogues, there is nothing much you can do so, look around the car, interact with Opal, and then repeat it again. Once Opal has ignored you two times, the chapter will be concluded and it will unlock the “The Road Worrier” achievement.

Chapter: Houseboat

At the beginning of the chapter, go through the dialogues with Opal and then walk ahead on the path to reach Larry’s Shack. Look to the right on the gap and call Opal. Go through the dialogues and if you go to the right side of the shack, you will find a plank. Interact with it to place down the plank over the gap and go through the dialogues with Opal.

Now, go over to the other side and before going inside the house, go around the house to find a ladder at the back of the house. Descend from the ladder and open the door. Go to the end of the hallway and then to the left side to find a key behind the bar. Pick up the key and leave through the door ahead. Go up the ladder, enter the house, and open the first door on the left side using the key.

Once you are inside Pier’s office, open the top right drawer to find a note. Place back the note and you will find a key that opens the mailbox. Now, leave the houseboat and go back to the main staircase to find the mailboxes. Interact with the bottom right mailbox to open it with the key and you will find an envelope.

It will start a cutscene and going through the dialogues will let you open the envelope which reveals a great discovery and eventually, concludes the chapter. It will also unlock the “Pier pressure” achievement.

Chapter: The Way Home

The final chapter is all about speaking with Opal so while you are in the car with Opal, speak to her and go through the dialogues by selecting the dialogues. Upon making the final conversation, the credits will roll and it will unlock the “The Road Less Traveled” achievement.
