Wrestlequest Review

In the world of gaming, one of the popular genres of all time is RPGs and what is better if you mix the RPG genre with the Classic Turn-Based mechanic? There are several games out there with a mix of these genres but recently one of the most interesting collaborations that have been done is in Wrestlequest. Wrestlequest is a wrestling game with a twist of turn-based combat mechanics. Instead of making it a normal wrestling game, Mega Cat Studios has created something classic that tells a great story in a world where everything looks like a toy. This is our review of Wrestlequest.

Wrestlequest – Review

Wrestlequest is a distinctive approach to wrestling within the realm of video games. Departing from the typical real-time combat between two wrestlers, Wrestlequest introduces a classic turn-based RPG format. In this innovative adaptation, wrestlers engage in a strategic dance of move selection, taunting, and gimmick utilization, providing a fresh perspective on the wrestling medium. The RPG mechanics in Wrestlequest strike a balance between accessibility and complexity. They incorporate diverse attack categories, elemental strengths, and weaknesses, adding layers of depth to the gameplay experience.

Beyond its captivating mechanics, Wrestlequest weaves an engaging narrative that delves into the essence of the pro wrestling industry, questioning the blurred lines between “Fake” or “Real”. This exploration forms the backdrop of the game’s storyline. Wrestlequest boasts the inclusion of iconic wrestling figures such as Jeff Jarrett, Andre the Giant, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, and Diamond Dallas Page. With the addition of these iconic wrestlers, we can safely say that it is a love letter to the fans of wrestling.

Apart from wrestling, you will get to roam around the world of toys which delivers an authentic RPG experience. You will get to meet the legends of wrestling and uncover the essence of the pro wrestling industry. The story of the game is funny and engaging which will let you meet with other action figure characters.

The customization and enhancements of the wrestlers are another great aspect of the game. As you level up your character, you can spend points on various body parts to enhance the overall attributes of your character. The HP and AP are the main attributes as you have to maintain them during the fight. Defeating and moving on in the story will also give you access to customize your entrance, select a song, and more which all eventually enhances the Hype of the fight which is one of the crucial aspects of wrestling in general.

The more hype you create, the more rewards you will get at the end of the match. The Hype also allows you to do signature and finisher moves like in real wrestling. If you created Hype early, you can choose your special move to take out the opposition early in the match.

Wrestlequest – Verdict 8/10

The theme of the game is pretty aesthetic and the music delves well into it, enhancing the exploration of the towns and talking to action figure characters even more. However, some of the move mechanics of the game can be hard to understand. For instance, the tag team moves will require certain skills to be unlocked to perform them but the game itself does not do a good job mentioning that.

Overall, the game provides a classic wrestling experience in several locations throughout the game and we cannot recommend it enough to players who enjoy old wrestling filled with taunts and gimmicks.
