CD Projekt RED: Cyberpunk 2077 has reached a satisfactory level of quality

On April 15, CD Projekt released its approximate financial results for 2020. The company expects revenues of PLN 2.139 billion ($ 562 million) and a net profit of PLN 1.154 billion ($ 303 million). These figures were 14.4% and 13.7% lower than the forecasts of analysts polled by the Polish business publication PAP Biznes.

Experts believe that CPR forecasts may also mean that Cyberpunk 2077 sales will turn out to be lower than analysts originally estimated. Despite this, experts note that other factors could have affected the revenue – for example, higher marketing costs or a greater number of unsold physical copies of the game in retail.

According to analysts, sales of Cyberpunk 2077 in 2020 could range from 13.8 to 16 million copies, with an average and median forecast of 14.7 million. According to the latest official data, sales of the game as of December 20, 2020, amounted to 13 million copies – including refunds.

From early 2021 to mid-April, analysts expect sales of Cyberpunk 2077 to be in the range of half a million or 2 million copies. The average is 1.23 million copies and the median is 1.35 million.

According to a report from the analytical company M Science, RPG sales in digital stores in the first quarter of 2021 amounted to half a million copies. If these calculations turn out to be true, then analysts will be forced to lower their sales forecasts for the coming years.

Michal Wojciechowski from Ipopema Securities believes that the current period may be a lull in sales of Cyberpunk 2077. In his opinion, the interest of players will increase after the game is improved with patches and new content is added, and the price will be slightly lower.

According to forecasts of brokerage houses, most of the sales expected in 2021 will come at the end of the year and will be associated with the release of the patch for PS5 and Xbox Series X | S. Analysts polled by PAP Biznes predict that Cyberpunk 2077 sales will reach 18.5-25.9 million copies by the end of 2021, with an average and median forecast of 22.2 million.

Analysts believe that the return of the game to the PS Store may affect the increase in sales. Previously, experts believed that the game will return to sale on PlayStation consoles after patch 1.2, which was released on March 29, however, it seems that the developers will need to make more fixes.

According to analysts, the game will get another chance to return to the PS Store a few weeks after the next major patch, which may be released in May or June 2021. At the same time, experts do not reject the likelihood that Cyberpunk 2077 will return to sale in the PS Store at the same time as the release of versions for the current generation consoles.

According to the updated strategy of CD Projekt, the company has abandoned the multiplayer Cyberpunk 2077 – instead, CDPR plans to further develop its franchises, including “The Witcher”, as well as begin the parallel development of two AAA titles from 2022.

By the end of 2021, the company expects to release new patches and updates for Cyberpunk 2077, as well as updates for PS5 and Xbox Series X | S – including for the third “Witcher”.

Apparently, the first paid add-ons for Cyberpunk 2077 will not be released until 2022.
