Far Cry 6: Find all fish & sharks – unlock fishing & fishing hut
In Far Cry 6, you can find 19 different types of fish and sharks and earn loot for swapping materials by fishing. At this point, we will show you how you can build the fisherman’s hut and the locations of all fishing areas for each type of fish.
Unlock fishing and build fishing hut
You unlock fishing very early after one of the first main missions “Fuel of the Revolution”. As a reward, you will receive your fishing rod, which you can select from now on using the weapon wheel. Stand with it at any water point and cast the line to fish.
Then slowly pull in the fishing line to attract fish. Small waves then show you the movements of the fish. As soon as a fish bites, put it on the hook and continue to bring in the fishing line. Simultaneously move the rod against the swimming direction of the fish in order to pull it ashore slowly but surely. If your fishing line turns red, you should give in a little, otherwise, the line can break and the fishing process will fail.
In order to fish effectively, you should set up the “fishing hut” camp facility in one of your three base camps in the individual regions as early as possible. Talk to the NPC with the green hammer symbol above your head and expand the fisherman’s hut in up to three stages for the storage resources gasoline and medicine. This brings you further advantages.
- Level 1: You receive the fishing vest and gloves, new fishing areas are marked and brochures for common fishing areas can be bought in the fishing hut for pesos. You can also collect fish prey from a great distance.
- Level 2: You get the fishing pants, the fishing sandals, new fishing areas are marked and brochures for rare fishing areas can be bought in the fishing hut for pesos. You also get the ability to lure fish with throwing bait.
- Level 3: You receive the fishing hat, new fishing areas are marked and brochures for very rare fishing areas can be bought in the fisherman’s hut for pesos. You also get the ability to fish with fire, bullets and explosives without receiving damaged fish meat.
The last stage is especially important, as you can kill all fish with normal weapons and get undamaged meat. Also, equip all 5 parts of the fishing outfit and equip your fishing rod with upgrades in fishing boxes that can be found near most fishing areas.
Can you fish sharks?
Sharks are special fish that you cannot fish. You can only kill sharks with weapons, bows, or explosives. To unlock one of the trophies and achievements of Far Cry 6 with “Jason Brody”, you even have to kill a shark with an explosion. The best way to do this is to use a rocket launcher.
Locations for all fish and sharks
At the workbench, you can swap the prey of animals, fish, and sharks for other resources such as industrial materials, recycled glass, and sturdy plastic. You will need this for weapon upgrades, for example.
Alternatively, you can use the fish meat to make recipes in the “La Cantina” storage facility. This gives you temporary buffs with various effects. You can see the fish you have collected in the menu under Inventory → Merchandise.
Fish and sharks all have permanent fishing areas in Yara that are sure to be found. These places are permanently marked on the map when exploring or by buying brochures in the fisherman’s hut. In the following we show you exemplary locations for all fish and sharks on map excerpts, so you can save the pesos for the brochures.
