Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: How to Learn New Moves and Re-Learn Old Moves

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is an action-adventure game with battle mechanics where players can take out opponents’ Pokemon in the battle or individual Pokemon to catch it. As both Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet have leveling system where the Pokemon level up by getting enough experience points for the next level. Leveling up the Pokemon gives many advantages and one of them is new moves. But how players can learn the new unlocked moves of the Pokemon?

In this guide, we’ll tell you how to learn new moves and re-learn old moves in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Learning New Moves

As players level up their Pokemon by doing the activities from which they get the experience points. Leveling up the Pokemon to a certain level will grant them new moves which they can learn and then use in the battle. All the new moves have greater stats than the previous moves and in order to learn the new moves of the Pokemon, you can follow the following steps described down below.

  • Press the X button to open the menu and use the D-Pad to navigate on the Pokemon Screen.
  • Select the Pokemon that you want to teach new moves and select the Check Summary option.
  • Now, change the Page to the Moves and Stats tab and then press the A button to change the moves of the Pokemon.

Now, there’ll be three options here and to learn new moves, you need to learn the new move by using the TM. If your Pokemon has three moves or four moves, you can learn one new move by using TM.

  • Select the Use TMs to Learn Moves option and your bag will be opened and all of the TMs moves in your inventory will be shown.
  • Select the move that you want to teach to your Pokemon.

Now, if your Pokemon already has its four moves learned, you need to replace the newly learned move with one of the moves. If your Pokemon has three moves then the new Learned move will be added to the moves list.

  • Considering your Pokemon has four moves, learning the new move will take you to the move list screen where you need to replace one of the moves.
  • Select the move you want to replace and then choose the Yes option.

To learn the new unlocked moves by leveling up, you just need to choose the option Remember Moves and you’ll see all the moves that your Pokemon can learn on the current level. Select the Move and then replace it with one of the moves that you have to add to your learned moves.

Re-Learn Old Moves

Players can also teach their Pokemon to learn old moves. If you think your Pokemon previous move was better and the new move is not that effective then you can teach the Pokemon old move as well. To teach the old move, follow the following steps described below.

  • Select the option Remember Moves and you’ll see the new moves you’ve unlocked as well as the old moves that were replaced when you unlocked the new moves.
  • Select the moves that you want to teach to your Pokemon and then replace them with the ones you want to add to the moves list.

If you want to forget a move of your character then you can choose the Forget a Move and then you’ll be able to choose a move from your move list. Select the Yes option after selecting a move that you want to forget and that move will be forgotten. But you can also get that move back from the Remember Moves option in the change moves option of the move list. You can test out all the different moves of your Pokemon and then select all those you think are the most effective for your Pokemon.
