Starfield: Build an Outpost

Building an Outpost is a great way to increase your resources or increase your empire in Starfield. You will be in charge of your outposts and you can build them in any way you like. Whether you only want to extract resources from the planets or build your base alongside your factory to chill and relax while your extractors make you rich with resources, building an outpost is the way to do it.

Looking to know how you can get started by building an outpost in Starfield, then you are at the right place. This guide will assist you in how you can build an Outpost in Starfield.

How to Build an Outpost in Starfield

There are no hard restrictions on building an outpost in Starfield compared to the Fallout series. Once you have completed the One Small Step main mission of the game, you will be free to explore the immense world on your ship and land on any planet that you want. Each planet contains several resources on it that you can gather by using your cutter but if you build your outpost on the planet, you will be able to gather tons of resources without doing any hard work. To get started with the outpost, the first and crucial thing that you need to do is to place your Outpost Beacon.

  • Find a suitable planet on which you want to build an Outpost. Make sure to scan the planet by pressing the LB Button to view all of the available resources on the planet.
  • Land on the planet.
  • Equip your scanner by pressing the LB Button (XBOX) or F Key (PC) and equip the Outpost Beacon by pressing the X Button (XBOX) or the R Key (PC).
  • Move around to find a suitable location to place the Outpost Beacon by pressing the A Button (XBOX) or the E Button (PC).

Initially, all players will have the freedom to place 8 Outpost Beacons in the early stage of the game. Meaning, you can place Outpost Beacons on 8 different planets to gather all possible types of resources. However, there are some planets on which you will not be able to place the beacon due to extreme weather but if you unlock and rank up the Planetary Habituation Skill from the Science Skill Tree, you will get access to those planets and increase the total number of Outpost Beacons to 16.

Build Structures and Defenses

The main reason for building an outpost in Starfield is to build the structures that will help you in retrieving the available resources. To get the resources, you will have to build and place down the Extractors, Storage, and Power Generators. These are the three different structures that you want to focus on initially. There are three different types of resources in Starfield, Solid, Gas, and Liquid. You will have to build the same type of Extractor to get the respective resources and store them in the respective storage. For instance, build the Iron Extractor to get Iron (Solid) and connect the Iron Extractor to Solid Storage to store iron. If you connect the Iron Extractor to a storage that stores Liquid or Gas, it will not allow you to proceed.

Once you have set up your small or big factory to extract resources, the next thing that you want to build is defenses for your outpost. Spacers and Pirates will encounter randomly on your outpost and the best way to get rid of them while you are not there is to place turrets and robots and assign your crew members to the outpost.

Another thing that is worth mentioning is making structures and different machines will require a great number of resources, mainly Aluminum so, make sure that you get your hands on Aluminum either by buying it or mining it from other planets. It can be pricy and time-consuming at the start but once you have built yourself a nice welcoming outpost, you will no longer have to worry about resources.
