The Blood of Dawnwalker: How to Save the Mother

The Prologue of the Blood of Dawnwalker shapes a lot of crucial choices and outcomes later in the story. Moreover, one of the main endings is only possible if you manage to save Coen’s Mother (Esme) during the Withering Away quest. The Withering Away is one of the main prologue quests, requiring you to gather the herbs and make a medicinal brew. However, the outcome relies on whether you make the correct brew or not. How to Save Coen’s Mother in The Blood of Dawnwalker

Get the Herbs from Anca

Time segments play a crucial role in The Blood of Dawnwalker, and some options cost more time segments and affect later interactions in the story. Once you get the objective to get the herbs for the brew, you need to find Anca. Head southeast of Laslea Glen to find Anca by the river. Speak with her and pay her 50 denarius for the herbs.

NOTE: Here, you can either select a 1-time segment or a 2-time segment dialogue choice. If you want to romance Anca, then you must choose the “Gladly, I’ve missed it too” option.

Make the Correct Brew for Mother

Saving Coen’s Mother completely rely on making a correct brew for her. Once you have the herbs, go back to Pieter and speak with him. After a brief cutscene, you will have to make the brew. Select the following choices for the correct brew.

• “Use hot water.”
• “Add three spoonfuls of herbs”

After making the brew, Coen will feed it to Mother. Once the whole sequence is over, you can practice combat with Pieter. Now, during the night when Blood Mass begins, the vampires will not kill Coen’s Mother if the brew was correct. However, if you have not made the correct brew, Esme’s fate will not be a good one. Regardless of saving the Mother, the whole family will remain prisoners, but it does get you one step closer for an exclusive ending.
