The world of Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is both terrific and mesmerizing. Exploration is a crucial part of the game, as it rewards you for your trouble. During your playthrough, you might decide to jump into the “Fountain of the Lost” in the Holy Innocents’ Cemetery area. Going through the bubbly water will end you up in the Serpent’s Lair with a chest in the middle. However, the chest will be locked and will not open until you fulfill its requirements. In this guide, we will explain how to solve the Serpent’s Lair chest puzzle in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse.

How to Solve the Serpent’s Lair Chest Puzzle in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse

As you drop down into the Serpent’s Lair, you will notice that the chest is chained up and glowing green. This resembles the Green Coffins or the Challenge rooms that you can find at various locations. In total, there are five challenge rooms, and you must complete all of them to unlock the chest in Serpent’s Lair.

All Green Coffin Locations in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse

There are five green coffins spread around the cemetery area in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse. Four out of five coffins can be reached at any point, while the final one requires the Smash ability, which you get from defeating the Builder (Talos). You must progress further into the game to reach Dracula’s Castle and navigate through the Clock Tower to reach the Builder.

Here are all the locations of the Green Coffins in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse.

  1. Cemetery Entrance: Hardly missable, at the start of the cemetery area.
  2. Pillaged Tombs: Underneath the Fountain of the Innocents room. Go to the right and slide on the bridge to find a lever. Pull the lever to unlock the hatch beneath the middle of the room.
  3. Ossuary of the Innocents: To the right of the mirror in Pauper’s Grave room. Go all the way to the right and ascend into the ossuary room to trigger the challenge.
  4. Mass Grave: Behind the breakable wall to the left at the top of the Roman Baths room.
  5. Ancient Sewers: Break the block in the Sepulcher of the Knight room using the Smash ability.

Make sure to break the green coffin after defeating all the enemies in the challenge room. Upon breaking all five green coffins, the Serpent’s Lair chest will unlock.

Opening the chest rewards you with the “Vampire’s Fang”, a bat pet that follows you and damages enemies.

Playing Video Games is the very first hobby that I partake in and it became my favorite hobby. Played Unreal Tournament 2004 as my first game which made me a fan of FPS Games. Story and Adventure Games are still my Cup of Tea to go with as they give more detailing to the described worlds and characters. I love to help out my fellow gamers across all over the world by making my publications.
