Detective Pikachu Returns - The Missing Jewel

The Missing Jewel is the first official case for Tim and Pikachu after a long time in Rhyme City. Sanjeev Denis, one of the wealthiest citizens of Rhyme City has been robbed of his precious Jewel and he personally asks of you to find out who did it.

We will be covering Chapter 1: The Missing Jewel to assist you in the investigation of the case in Detective Pikachu Returns.

The Missing Jewel – Walkthrough

Inspector Holiday will inform Tim about the robbery at Denis’s residence as soon as Tim and Pikachu come to Rhyme City. Listen to the conversation between Inspector and Tim and then make your way towards the right side to reach Inspector Holiday who will be waiting for you. Go further right to reach Denis’s residence. Talk to Brad McMaster to proceed ahead.

Get Sanjeev Denis’s Testimony

Once you have reached inside Denis Mansion, go to the room on the right side to talk to Sanjeev Denis. Ask questions about the robbery and the precious jewel to get his testimony.

Gather Clues from Jewel Storage Room

Go up to the second floor and to the room on the right side to reach the Jewel Storage Room. There will be six clues in total that you need to gather from the room.

  • The Four Jewel Cases
  • The Aurora Jewel Case Pedestal
  • The Jewel Case Lock
  • The Broken Glass
  • Cotton
  • The Blue Feather

How Was the Jewel Stolen?

After getting all the clues, close the investigation by pressing the B Button and then press the X Button to open your Notes. Select the Begin Deducing option to find the answer to how was the jewel stolen. Select the “The Culprit cut open the case and stole the jewel” option to get the correct answer.

Get Sanjeev Denis’s Second Testimony

Once you have deduced how was the jewel stolen, talk to Sanjeev Denis to get his second testimony. Sanjeev Denis will tell Barnes always has the key to the Storage Room but he does not have the key to the Case in which the Aurora Jewel was stored. Now, you need to figure out whether is Barnes innocent or not. But before you get to do that, you need to find more clues.

Go out of the Storage Room and look near the open window to find another Blue Feather.

Talk to the People and Pokemon inside the Mansion

It’s time to interview other residents and Pokemon living in the Mansion. First, interview the people to get their testimonies.

  • Claudia Dennis
  • Larry Turner
  • Mr. Barnes

Getting their testimonies will let you hear their side of the story and unlock more clues to the case. Now, talk to the Pokemon.

  • Clefable
  • Growlithe

Is Barnes the Culprit?

After talking to every resident and Pokemon in the Mansion, you will have enough clues to deduce whether Barnes stole the Jewel or not. Open the Notes and select the Begin Deducing option. Select the “Barnes may not be the culprit – he returned to the mansion after the crime had occurred” option to clear Mr. Barnes’s name.

Search for Ducklett and the Red Pokemon

Now, it’s time to search for Ducklett and the mysterious Red Pokemon who attacked Larry Turner. Go out of the Mansion and go to the left side to reach the Hi-Hat Café. Meet with Rachel Myers and her friend Jessica Miller. Talk to Pablo Millan, the barista to ask him if he had seen Ducklett. He will tell you that he had seen Ducklett recently but she left.

Where Did Ducklett Go?

Open the notes to deduce where did Ducklett go. Select the Begin Deducing option and then select the “She went to the Hi-Hit Café” option to deduce she might be returning to the Mansion with the coffee beans.

Make your way back to the Mansion but Ducklett won’t be there. While you are at the Mansion, Tim will suggest to start looking for the Red Pokemon. Go to the right side to talk to Whimsicotts and ask them questions to learn that they were playing with the Red Pokemon at the Terrace in Serenity Park. Go further right side to reach the Serenity Park area and keep going ahead until you meet with Charles Merloch, a scientist. Talk to the scientist and go through the dialogues to keep going ahead towards the Terrace.

Reaching the Terrace will show the perfect Vantage Point for the Culprit as the Storage Room’s Window can be seen clearly from the Terrace. Go around the Terrace to find the following clues.

  • Whimsicott Cotton
  • Torn Leaves
  • Rock with Slashes

Where is the Red Pokemon?

After gathering the clues at the Terrace, open the Notes and select the Begin Deduce option to figure out where is the Red Pokemon. Select the “Search near the rock” option. Now, go to the rock with slashes again and examine it to select the “Climb on the rock” option to find the Red Pokemon, Pawniard. Interview Pawniard to get more clues about the case which false the Larry Turner Testimony about getting punched by a Red Pokemon because Pawniard has blades instead of hands.

Pawniard testimony will not bring huge help to the case and the only help remaining is Ducklett. Pikachu will suggest that they should ask the help from other Pokemon with special abilities which will help them find Ducklett. Make your way back to the Mansion to ask Pokemon in the mansion for help to locate Ducklett. Talk to the following Pokemon to ask for help.

  • Clefable
  • Manetric
  • Growlithe

How can we find Ducklett?

After asking for help from all Pokemon inside the Mansion, you need to select the one best for locating Ducklett. Open the Notes and begin deducing about how can we find Ducklett. Select the “Let’s ask Growlithe to track Ducklett’s scent” option to find the solution for finding Ducklett. Talk to Growlithe again if she would help to locate Ducklett. She would be happy to locate Ducklett and you will be able to mount Pikachu on Growlithe to go along with the Scent that Growlithe picks up.

Press the A Button to mount on Growlithe and then press the R Button to use the Scent ability of Growlithe. Follow the blue scent trails and make your way to the fountain in Serenity Park. Go to the bush near the fountain to find Ducklett. Interview Ducklett to get Ducklett’s testimony and it will tell you about Cramorant, Turner’s Pokemon.

Follow Cramorant’s Scent

Pikachu will give the Blue Feather to Glowrithe to use her scent ability to find Cramorant. Make your way back to the mansion and then press the R Button to start following the scent. Make your way to the left side to reach the garden with a fountain. Go to the Back Alley beside the fountain to find Cramorant. Cramorant will be sleeping beside another Pokemon Trubbish and as you get close Cramorant will wake up.

Interview Cramorant to get its testimony and after that, interview Trubbish. Trubbish will reveal a note which happens to be the note from the culprit in which the whole plan of the robbery is mentioned.

Meet back up with Tim

After getting the testimonies and the clues, head back to the Mansion to meet with Tim and tell him about the clues.

How can we prove Barnes’s innocence?

Open the Notes and select the Begin Deducing option to find the reason why Barnes is not the culprit. Select the “With the note, which was written by someone other than Barnes” option to prove Barnes’s innocence.

Find out why the Pokemon was sleeping

Pikachu will ask you a couple of questions and you need to answer them with the following options.

  • She was sleeping
  • All of them went to sleep.

Now, you need to figure out why all the Pokemon went to sleep. Inspect Glowrithe’s food bowl in the room to find Sleeping Powder. Open the Notes to deduce the reason for sleeping Pokemon and select the “Sleep powder was mixed into their breakfast” option.

Follow the Scent to the Sleep Powder

Ask Glowrithe for help again to figure out where the sleep powder came from. Use Pikachu to mount on Glowrithe and use her scent ability to follow the scent of Sleep Powder. The scent will take you back to the Terrace in Serenity Park and you will find Liligant. Interview Liligant to learn about Sleep Powder.

Who could have slipped the Pokemon sleep powder?

Make your way back to the mansion to start learning about who could have poisoned the Pokemon. Talk to Denis, Claudia, Turner, and Barnes to gain information. After that, open the Notes to deduce the anomaly by selecting the “Larry Turner” option because he is in charge of preparing Pokemon meals.

Where is the Stolen Jewel?

Almost all of the anomalies of the case have been solved except the location of Aurora Jewel. It is time to find out the location of the jewel. Go to the Back Alley to interview with Cramorant again and as you talk to Cramorant Pikachu will use his great Bolt of Brilliance to figure everything out. Open the Notes to deduce the last anomaly in the case. Select the “It’s inside Cramorant’s belly” option to figure out everything in the case.

Confirm to solve the case to go to the Mansion and answer everything regarding the case.

Solving the Case

Answers all the questions with the following answers to successfully solve the case.

  • How did the culprit get the key?
    • They made Growlithe fall asleep, then stole the key.
  • Which Pokemon cut open the Jewel Case?
    • Pawniard.
  • What evidence proves that Barnes is not the culprit?
    • The note that the accomplice wrote.
  • Who is the culprit?
    • Larry Turner.
  • Which Pokemon has the jewel?
    • Cramorant.

Pikachu will scare Cramorant which will make it spit out Aurora Jewel and the Key to the Storage Room. Mr. Turner will have no way out and the case will be closed officially.

Tim and Pikachu will return to Tim’s Apartment from where you can start the next chapter, The Fabled Aurora.
