God of War Ragnarok: How to Parry

God of War Ragnarok is filled with action and learning the attacking abilities will let you defeat the enemies that come your way. God of War Ragnarok has vast fighting mechanics and one of the key fighting mechanics against the bosses and tough enemies is Parrying.

In this guide, we’ll tell you how to Parry in God of War Ragnarok.

Parrying

The enemies in the Nine Realms will come for God of War with everything they got and try to kill him but with the Shield of Kratos, you can block the attacks but most importantly, you can parry the enemies’ attacks to deal damage to them. Parrying requires solid reaction time and a little bit of practice but once you’ve learned and mastered this key skill of Kratos, you’ll be defeating enemies in no time. Parrying is a key skill in God of War Ragnarok’s combat and especially if you’re planning on taking on the higher difficulties and some of the optional bosses like the Berserkers on your playthrough, you’re going to want to learn how to do it.

To do parrying and understand how parrying works, and when you have a window to stun your enemies, it’s going to save you from a lot of difficult times in the fights. It’s very simple to do but only the hard bit is pulling it off consistently. There are a few kinds of attacks that enemies can hit you with in Ragnarok.

  • Basic Attacks
    • The Basic Attacks of the enemies are easy to dodge, block, and parry. You need to press the L1 key or guard key when they are about to hit you to parry the attack and stun them, giving you the advantage to aggress on them with your weapons.
  • Yellow Ring Attacks
    • The Yellow Ring Attacks can be blocked or parried only once and will leave Kratos vulnerable to damage. So, it is not a better choice to parry these attacks of enemies.
  • Red Ring Attacks
    • The Red Ring Attacks cannot be blocked so if you see an enemy attacking you with a Red Ring on its body then you do want to get a safe distance from the enemy because you won’t be able to break it and the enemy will grab you by its throat even if you hold your guard up.
  • Double Blue Rings Attacks
    • The Double Blue Rings Attacks cannot be blocked if you hold your guard up but they can be interrupted if you double-press the L1 key. The Kratos will hit them with the shield while they are doing the attack, giving you the advantage to get hits on the enemy.

The timing is everything for parrying an attack and if you’re playing on lower difficulties then it would be really easy for you to parry all the basic attacks and the projectile attacks. One of the key attacks to parry is the projectile attack because parrying a projectile of an orb or arrow will shoot back the projectile to the enemy and deal damage. As a projectile can be seen from a distance coming towards you, you can easily time it before it hits you to parry it on the enemy.

Learn to see the Ring Attacks of the enemies as they are for you to help you to quickly act upon it not to scare you so if you’re seeing the Yellow or Red Ring Attacks, it is no use to block them or parry them because you’re going to get hit by the enemy. If you’re seeing the Blue Rings or basic attacks then you can time them to parry them or interrupt them to gain an advantage on your enemies. It would take some practice to be completely master in this skill but it is a must-learn skill in God of War Ragnarok.

I enjoy playing games, and gaming is a passion of mine. Among my favorite games are Tears of the Kingdom, GTA, and Cyberpunk.
