Oxenfree II Lost Signals - Review

Oxenfree II: Lost Signals is an Indie Adventure Game created by Night School Studio and published by Netflix. It is a sequel to the original Oxenfree that came out in 2016 which was one of the top games of Netflix Games as it delivers a great experience of Narrative Adventure with a spooky and horror touch. Its successor is no different and it has all of the aspects of the original game and tells the story of a new character.

Oxenfree II: Lost Signals – Review

Oxenfree II: Lost Signals tells a story of an Adult Girl named Riley Poverly who has come back to Camena, her hometown. She is an “Environmental Researcher” and there have been some sightings and recordings of Supernatural Signals across Camena. Her job is to place the Transmitters at a certain height so the character at the backend, Evelyn can record the readings. Riley is partnered up with her High School friend, Jacob Summers who will join Riley in this adventure.

Throughout the adventure, there are exchanges of dialogue left and right which is one of the main aspects of the game. Like the original game, players will be given several dialogues throughout the game and players can choose any dialogue they see fit to react to the moment or to continue a conversation with one of the characters. Selection of the dialogues does not make much of a difference in the story at the start but as players progress ahead in the game and uncover the main plot of the story, the choices get more intense and more valuable.

Players will have to make some major choices in the game that will make the relationships with the people they met, eventually turning the shape of the story and ending at the end. The major turning points in the story are totally up to the players and they will be in control of choosing the ending of their playthrough. The game itself is not very long as it takes up to 4 hours to complete with one ending. There are 3 endings in total and to get each ending, players will have to replay the game and make alternative choices to turn the endings.

It is pretty much similar to the original game and there is a link to the original game as well but if you have not played the first game, worry not because it does not affect the understanding of the story of Oxenfree II: Lost Signals. The story and the characters are so well-written in Oxenfree II that players would not feel out of context because it is a brand-new story. Players will get to experience the disturbance in the time and space which causes the events of Supernatural Signals across Camena. As players explore and progress in the game, they will get to jump through time and space, experiencing incoherent, distorted cult members, and much more.

There are also new types of puzzles that players will have to solve to progress ahead in the game. The main tool that will help Riley to solve puzzles is a Radio. Players will be able to change the frequency of the Radio which will allow Riley to open up a portal through time and space. Riley can go through different times to make changes in the past and open up a path in the present. It is a very interesting mechanic that is both enjoyable and spooky at the same time because players will witness a lot of flying people in the air whenever a time tear appears.

Oxenfree II: Lost Signals – Final Thoughts and Score (8/10)

Oxenfree II: Lost Signals follows the same step of the original game which gives an experience of a Spooky Narrative Adventure in 2-D. The world design is better that matches the vibe of the narrative and the sound design is also great. The communication with the characters feels more lively due to the amazing voice acting and the emotions can also be felt in their voice. All over, it is a well-executed narrative experience and we give this one an 8 out of 10 score.

Another thing that we want to point out is that this game might not be for everybody especially, the ones who don’t like to be interrupted by a dialogue or a lot of dialogue because this game is filled with dialogue and it builds the story with dialogues. For the players who want to enjoy a good narrative then this game would fulfill that need
