The Legend of Monkey Island – The Journey to Melee Island Walkthrough

The first of the three Tall Tales is now available for the players to explore in Sea of Thieves. Players will get to discover and explore Melee Island in the First Tall Tale and meet Guybrush Threepwood himself. The whole journey is tied to the main quest “The Journey to Melee Island” in which players will get to do battle with ghosts and solve several puzzles.

In this guide, we’ll be covering the complete walkthrough of Journey to Melee Island in Sea of Thieves.

The Journey to Melee Island Walkthrough

To get started with the First Tall Tale, players will first have to start the main quest “The Journey to Melee Island”. After that, follow through the steps described in detail to complete the quest.

Start “The Journey to Melee Island” Quest

Players need to look for Captain Capsize’s Camp near any outpost. She can be located near the pier from where players start the Disney Pirate missions. Select the Monkey Island option from the main menu of the game to directly spawn near her. Go to her camp and there will be a book placed on the table that players need to interact with. It will start the quest and a Green Portal will open at sea. Go through the cutscene and then head to the pier to take control of the ship and set sail toward the Green Portal.

Go through the Green Portal to listen to Guybrush Threepwood and soon Melee Island will appear in front. Control the ship and dock at the island.

1. Head to Scumm Bar and Talk with Chef

Go into the town and the Scumm Bar will be on the left side. Enter the Scumm Bar and sit on the chair to get the first commendation. Now, interact with the Guybrush poster to get the second commendation. Go to the back of the bar to enter the kitchen to talk with the chef. Select the “I’m Looking for a Job” option and the chef will tell you to get the Chef’s Uniform.

2. Gather 45 Pieces o’ Eight to Buy Chef’s Uniform

Pieces o’ Eight is a local currency of Melee Island and players will be able to get a total of 55 Pieces o’ Eight at this point in the quest. Mainly all the required Pieces o’ Eight will be gathered by looting the crates spread across the town. There are several barrels placed around the town as well from which players will get 1 – 2 Pieces o’ Eight. Lastly, players need to go all the way to the Lookout which is the Peak of Melee Island.

Players need to talk to the Lookout on top and distract him by selecting the “I See a Ship” option. When the Lookout is distracted, look to the left side and steal the pouch which will give 12 Pieces o’ Eight.

3. Buy the Chef’s Uniform and Go Back to Chef

Upon gathering 45 Pieces o’ Eight, go to the General Store in the town and the Chef’s Uniform will be at the counter. Interact with it to buy the uniform and go to the right side of the counter to change the outfit to Chef’s Uniform. Now, go back to Scumm Bar and talk with Chef. He will go out on his break. Loot the cupboard in the kitchen to get more Pieces o’ Eight and then interact with the recipe book to learn the recipe for Root Beer Stewed Meat.

Dice the Onion and Slice the Leek and then put them in the cooking pot. The Root Beer Sprinkles will be on the shelf, Caniche Mordant Flower will be on Rack, and the Hunk o’ Meat will be on the back table. Add all of the ingredients into the Cooking Pot and the remaining ingredient is Red Herring Fish for which players will have to do fishing. Open the back door of the kitchen by picking up the key from beside the door and go outside the kitchen to start fishing. Catch the Red Herring Fish and put it into the Cooking Pot to complete the recipe.

Grab the Root Beer Stewed Meat and it’s time to loot the drunk pirates. Equip your Tankard and fill it up to serve the three thirsty pirates. You will have to serve each pirate three times until they are asleep. Two of the pirates will give Pieces o’ Eight while one pirate will have the Key to the Clocktower.

4. Head to the Back Alley of the Church

Go out from the Scumm Bar and head into the town. Upon reaching the Church, go down to the end of the alleyway. Listen to the ghost skeleton named “Walt” while he scares the Poodles. Interact with the pot of Poodles to place down the Root Beer Stewed Meat and watch the poodles kill Walt. Each Poodle will take away one bone of Walt and our next objective is to get back the bones.

5. Head to the Clocktower

Go to the Clocktower and you will get to open two doors of Clocktower. Upon unlocking both of the doors, it will get you inside the tower. There will be a pouch of Pieces o’ Eight on the table so make sure to collect it. There will be a bone stuck between the cogs that you need to remove by interacting with it. Collect the dropped bone and then interact with the wheel to turn back the time to Midnight. Go back to the alleyway and place the bone back on the dead skeleton.  Pick up the Pouch of Pieces o’ Eight from the barrel and a Pair of Gunpowder Gummies from the Crate.

6. Head to the Prison and Break Open the Cells

The prison is located on the left side of the church and as you walk into the prison, you will notice a prisoner named “Otis” in the left cell. Place the Gunpowder Gummies in both of the cells. Now, you need to go to the General Store to buy Gunpowder Fuses. Buy Gunpowder Fuses for both of the cells and return to the prison.

Interact with Gunpowder Gummies to place the Gunpowder fuses. Use the Lantern to ignite the fuses to break open the prison cells. Go inside the right cell and there will be another bone on the wall. Pick it up and place it on the dead skeleton in the alley.

7. Open the Shop of Melee Citizen

Go back to the Prison and on the table, there will be a Claw Hammer that you need to pick up. Now, make your way to the docks and place down the Claw Hammer somewhere at the docks because, in the meantime, you have to use the crane to pull out a cargo box from the water. Before using the crane, jump down into the water and use your sword to break the ropes. Now, come back up and use the pulleys of the crane to pull out the Cargo Box. Pick up the Claw Hammer to open the Cargo Box and pick up the Crate of Important Goods.

Now, go back into the town and as you turn right, you will see a Citizen of Melee. Give the Crate of Important Goods to him and he will open up his small shop which is important for later in the quest.

8. Collect Murray Head

Go back to the Prison for the last time and you will see that Otis has left behind his favorite friend “Coco”. Pick it up and go to the Scumm Bar. Go to the fireplace behind the pirate captains and replace Coco with Murray Head. Now, players will have to complete the Guided Tour Commendation for which players will have to bring Murray to 9 different locations. Go to the following locations and wait for Murray to say a dialogue on each location.

• Scumm Bar
• Docks
• Lookout
• Street
• Alleyway
• Prison
• Church
• General Store
• Clocktower

Once all of the locations have been visited with Murray and you have achieved the Commendation, go back to the alleyway to place down Murray Head on the dead skeleton.

9. Buy the Cute Monkey Toy

Now, go to the Citizen of Melee and buy the Cute Monkey Toy. Head to the Scumm Bar and talk to Spiffy the Dog. You need to talk to Spiffy for a total of six times to unlock the Groggy Dog Story Commendation but at this point, you will only be able to talk to Spiffy for only 5 times. Do that and offer the Cute Monkey Toy to Spiffy to get the last bone. You need to come back to Spiffy later to get the commendation. Now, go back to the Alley to place the last bone on the skeleton and follow Murray.

10. Enter the Mansion

You will have the ticket to enter the mansion which is given to you when you give the Crate of Important Goods to the Citizen of Melee. Murray will take the place of Ghost Skeleton and will allow you to visit the mansion. Enter the mansion and pick up the Pouch of Pieces o’ Eight from the table and head up the stairs to knock at the door. After knocking 5 times, the character will bust open the door. Talk to Guybrush Threepwood and when he goes to sleep. Loot the Pouch o’ Eight from the cupboard on the right side of the room. Now, enter the bedroom on the left side and loot the last Pouch of Pieces o’ Eight from the chest in the bedroom. Open the curtains and remove the bedsheet to find a letter and a key. Use the key on the chest near the bed to get Root Beer Bottle.

11. Fight the Ghost Skeletons

Watch the cutscene after picking up the Root Beer Bottle and as you go out, you will get to fight the Ghost Skeletons. Use the Root Beer Bottle to defeat 10 skeletons to unlock the commendation. Once all the Ghost Skeletons are dead, you will gain access to Corina’s Shop. Go inside Corina’s Shop and place the Root Beer Bottle inside the Cauldron. Corina will appear and a cutscene will start. After the cutscene, Corina will tell you to do some more work and come back to her when you are all done.

12. Complete the Required Commendations

You need to complete the remaining required commendation to complete the work. You need to go to the Citizen of Melee to buy the History Book which will complete the Historian Commendation. Go back to the Scumm Bar to talk to Spiffy for the last time to earn the Groggy Dog Story Commendation. The last required Commendation that you need to complete is Memoirs of a Legend, VOL. 1. To complete this Commendation, players need to sit at 10 different locations around Melee Island. Sit at the following locations to complete the Commendation.

• Front of the Scumm Bar
• Back of the Scumm Bar
• Docks
• In the General Store
• In the Prison
• In front of the Citizen of Melee
• On the roof in front of the Church
• In the Alleyway
• Outside the Mansion
• Inside the Mansion

13. Finish the Quest

Upon completing the required commendations, players need to go back to Corina and talk to her to complete the quest. Select the option “I’ve done all I can here. I’m ready to go home” and it will take you back to your ship leaving through the Green Portal and returning to the Damned Sea.
