Horizon Forbidden West developers promise: PS4 version will make everyone happy
Last week there was the first gameplay from Horizon Forbidden West as part of the State of Play. The almost 14-minute trailer showed material that was recorded by a PS5. We now had the opportunity to learn a little more about the technical details of the PS5 but above all the PS4 version.
Two graphics modes on PS4 and PS5
Like its predecessor, Horizon Zero Dawn, Forbidden West will also have two graphics modes – and that applies to both the current and the next-gen version. However, there are differences between the versions in both modes.
Here are the facts at a glance:
PS4:
- Performance mode: 30 FPS
- “Visual” mode: improved optics
PS5:
- Performance mode: 60 FPS
- “Visual” mode: 4k, even more, visual improvements
Mathijs de Jonge explains that it is important to them to let the players decide what counts for them: the advantage of the higher frame rate in combat or the optical improvements.
PS4 version is supposed to make everyone happy
When it comes to cross-gen titles, many gamers have concerns about whether the version for the older generation of consoles will meet their expectations. However, regarding the PS4 version of Forbidden West, Ben McCaw promises:
“It’s going to look fantastic and play great.”
The Horizon makers reveal that development was carried out for both console generations from the start and that the PS4 version was always in focus. They have tested a lot on the older generation of consoles and have dedicated themselves entirely to the desire to make all PS4 owners happy.
Benefits on the PS5
Of course, there will still be some visible improvements on the PlayStation 5. The developers reveal that they have used the power of the new console, for example, for higher-resolution water graphics, wave technology, and the cloud system.
According to Benjamin McCaw, most of the differences are visual in nature. But the features of the DualSense controller should also be used on the PS5. In addition, advantages are to be expected in terms of loading times, for example when traveling quickly.
